Yeah my current one goes back about 70cm atm and this one goes back 100 ... gimme plenty of space for my speedmat too which is currently cramped.Sup wrote:

This type of stuff for the stain. http://www.thehardwarecity.com/?sku=6084271 2 coats should be good enough.Mitch92uK wrote:
btw guys just quick ... so far
brackets; 5 x £6
leg 1 x £7
wood?? 1" Ply, 100cm (40 ins) x 170cm (70 ins)
stainer/varnish??
How much is the ply itself likely to cost? Also how much is the stainer going to be? I'll see if someone has an electric sander I can borrow, failing that I'll do it by hand.
hand sander will be good enough, need it mostly for the edges and corners

i was buying some sheets of plywood last year for around $5-$6. cant remember exact dimensions, but it was the standard size that it comes in.Spider1980 wrote:

also, depending on how thick the stain is, you might want to sand the surface, as plywood can be a bit nasty sometimes...as far as poking you goes.
and dont worry if you cant find an electric sander, i can find you some for about $8. they arent good quality, but they will last for a job......harbor freight comes in handy sometimes.
Also place a boxing bag near your desk, if a unskilled noob kills you ingame don't wreck the mouse just punch that bag!Mitch92uK wrote:

I personally don't like the look of the "L" Brackets. Why not go for something just as strong and has a cleaner look like a cleat along the back edge. here is a corner shelf project that uses the cleat system, you get the idea.
Doesn't seem too hard...
Have fun

I had a think and I tbh I think i'll just go with a simple tabletop and 4 support legs ....
I'll look for some Cheap Plywood that I can sand and treat, then just bolt the 4 legs onto the bottom of it

lol, that sounds so much more simpler then what you were proposing beforeMitch92uK wrote:

Put four ibolts in the ceiling and suspend a peice of solid surface counter top from the ceiling with some chains.
Then proceed to chain the gimp onto the table?jsnipy wrote:

Easiest, cheapest desk to build.

Takes 4 pieces of wood and some screws (glue if you want)

Ikea ftw
Small hourglass island
Always raining and foggy
Use an umbrella

But it wont be stable, you'll need to but some bracing in between the 4 legs or they'll just bend under lateral forces.Mitch92uK wrote:

agreed. its fucking hard to do math on a desk with any sort of a bend in it. i have experience.SEREMAKER wrote:

and stud finding isn't too difficult, knock on the wall with your hand and search for the tone change.
With the price of wood, the stain and the time, it might just be cheaper to buy one already done.
Your simple design would maybe be cheaper already built.
I had to build my own table because it had to support 700+ pounds
Your only needs to support about 50 pounds
If you are going to build your own desk, build it good and build it strong.
I built mine so strong it could probably support a car.

Already made tables are usually complete crap unless you get very high-dollar ones. They are made with freakin sawdust and glue, with fake stain glued on top.Spider1980 wrote:
