So recently my computer has started BSoD'ing a lot more. I mean before I'd get 1-2 a month, now it's 1-2 a day. Is there like a checklist I should go through to maybe find out what's causing it?
Cheers

EDIT: Not google'd the code yet, but next time I'm going to copy it down and do that.

Could use  memtest to check your RAM for errors

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

When do they happen? If it's just in games, your video card might be dieing,
if it happens outside games aswell, could be your RAM
Or even the OS is just not working properly, and you need to reinstall.

yes this is required for successful troubleshooting.  otherwise everything else is a shot in the dark

RAM and video card were got at Christmas, so I doubt it's that, but you never know.

Usually happens in games/quitting games/programs.
Reformatted a couple months back, Freezer, you sent me that program on MSN, remember?
CCleaned even more recently.
Gunna dust soon, busy atm.

Re-installing the OS is an impossibility, as I have no XP disc.
FFLink
There is.

It's not impossible. I can give you links to download an XP disc, bootable.

It's what I've done a few times now.

Installing windows from non-geniune media is legal, its the activation without a valid key that is illegal.

What if you have non-genuine media and a genuine key that you've aquired illegaly?

I don't think I've ever had a BSOD on XP. I hardly realised it was possible to get them. 98 and ME used to do it at every other mouse click.

Look at the BSOD and see what's causing it.

That can be extremely helpful in diagnosing these issues.

Are you overclocked any?

I used to bsod whenever I'd load up a game because my ram couldn't take it.

OC'd my old steam powered 7600GT.. not too much though. Infact, I think it only went up a couple degrees in CoD4.

Set your clocks back to default on your card. Just to make sure.

My laptop was BSoDing a lot a month ago.  It was the RAM that was doing it.  Probably doesn't help you though.

im going to requote my original post, because you can see from the replies to this thread that everything you do without knowing the exact error message is a shot in the dark

it could be alot of things really, hardware or software based.  get the error message, google, profit?

What are the errors on the BSoD's?  They point you in the right direction.  Have you installed any new hardware/speakers/peripherals?  New drivers can cause a BSoD.  For example, the drivers for my AXPC headset were causing me to BSoD in several games.

I had a (sort of) similar BSOD problem a couple of years ago on my old pc. It was due to bloody Yahoo! messenger. I'd installed it a day or so prior and it caused the pc to blue screen on me

Other than that, I'd go for memory or GFX as you say tends to happen more when you exit games apps etc.

But what do I know

I would google the code/tell you guys it but *touch wood* it isnt' doing it anymore.

BSoD: there when you don't want them, not when you do.
