I remember watching thunderbirds alot and i think its just something the thunderbirds say. Nothing widespread.

I make the lenses for peoples glasses and they are called 'Transitions lenses or, sunsensors'

Oh and some new 'reactions' lenses are coming out next year, which will react to light faster.
