I don't have a passport either. Though, I will probably need to get one with the new Canada border crossing rules. But, I don't want a national ID.Bertster7 wrote:

I have never had a passport, and really do not plan on getting one. I'd rather have a national ID.
What's the rationale behind that?
That's a fair point.usmarine wrote:

I'd love it if passports did fit in (normal sized) wallets. There's really no need for them to be so big.
Make passports smaller!
Well that is my only reason tbh. make it smaller and eveything electronic, and get rid of the stupid stamps.Bertster7 wrote:

I meant why would he rather have a national ID than a passport. Something he provided an excellent answer for.SenorToenails wrote:

/Al Murray reference.
Because of all the pages and stamping crap, also some VISA's are pretty big. Or something like that, they stick it on your passport I think. At least, that's what I've seen. Loads of reasons why Passports are that size and won't get smallerBertster7 wrote:

Would make them cheaper (to manufacture) too.

Well like I said, I never really needed one. The military ID worked, or there were other loopholes as well.Mek-Izzle wrote:

A national ID wouldn't work very well...as it is not a passport.
A national ID is a SS card, driver's license, birth cirtificate, etc. rolled into one card. Basically, it is your entire identity on a nice, portable, pick-pocketable card...sounds like a great idea! /sarcasm
"Have you seen my identity? I think I left it somewhere around here..."
Besides that, it is unnecessary and a duplication of efforts (that taxpayers would have to pay for).
