Getting a drivers license in the US.

So I'm already 18, never taken any formal driver education course or anything like that, but have tought myself to drive.

I want to get my license to avoid the risk of getting pulled over without one (obviously). Do I take a written test along with an actual driving course exam thing? I neglected to ask the last time I went to the DPS.

Honestly, if I was in a city, I would want an automatic gearbox.

Any other place manual is better. But in large cities, automatic is the way to go.

I would hope you would at least use it in games...its even easier then in real life and driving an automatic in racing games is pretty worthless.

I have my license and i'm 16, i be talkin on my cell and driving same time, now thats cool, cause Arnold passed a law where anyone under 18(am i right?) cant be talking or texting or have a bluetooth wireless set while driving.

whats with all the hate for automatic transmissions? I can understand why you wouldn't like the ones from the 80's but the ones they put in (somewhat expensive) cars nowadays are nice. Unless you're driving with a really small engine I see no advantage for manual over modern automatic transmissions.

I learned on manual and I reckon I prefer it. There's nothing wrong with automatics though. Been in a brand new bmw 5 series recently that was automatic and it was one of the nicest cars I've been in. Pretty rapid too.

Why the automatic hate? So much easier to drive around the city in. Manual has it's uses, but for a normal city driver, a stick has no clearcut advantages over an auto.

for my license, I took a permit test, got it, 30 questions, easy...

Kept my license for 5 months, then went in and took a 15 minute drive around the block

Now im a licensed driver in the state of arizona

to the point > A license in the United States is cake. Nothing to it

Manual is only good if your racing a road course to keep high RPM's when going around corners.

Automatic is good for daily driving and drag racing.

Who drives in the city so fast and aggressively that you need a manual to always have those high RPM's?

People who say Automatics suck are people who try to make themselves looks better by assuming it's so much harder to drive a manual so they think automatically they have such higher driving skills.... riiiiiiiiiiiiight.........

This is the year 2008 when don't need to manual shift all the fucking time, just gas and brake.

Manual doesn't make the car preform any better, it's all in the driver and the knowledge of the vehicle that hes driving.

So tired or hearing the automatic vs. stick garble...
