Do you both have the same version? If not, update Hamachi.

Go into control panel -> network connections -> advanced -> advanced settings -> then increase the priority on the hamachi connection so that its above everything else on the list. Both of you should do this.

Hamachi might actually only work with an older version.  I know Starcraft only works on version 1.0.1.1.

Try both using Hamachi 1.0.1.5 - http://www.filehippo.com/download_hamachi/2114/

I don't know why, but games work better with this than with the newer ones.

WC3 works fine with my hamachi (if you disable your firewall).

I know when I played Rome:total war, I had to disable local area connection, start hamachi, join lan and then re-able local area connection and refresh to see the game to join.

My friend had some problems when he updated so went back to version 0.9.9.9 (which I'm using)

Portforwarding.com says that program needs ports 2302 and 2303 for UDP...

check that site, look up directions for the router of who ever is hosting, goto your routers web interface and forward the port and it should work.
