I want to upgrade my Dell Poweredge 840 server with another ethernet card and a PCI fax modem. I opened up the case and had a look, but i dont have the right PCI ports, so im going to see if i can get some adapters / converters. But first i need to know what i have and what i need. So, from the spec sheet it has:

two PCI Express slots (1x8 lane and 1x1 lane);
two PCI-X slots (64-bit/133MHz, 3.3v);
one PCI slot (32-bit/33MHz).

A picture of the mobo is below, could you quickly use some paint.exe hax to label what port is what. Ive got an idea, but want to be sure.

PCI-e 8x - long black on top
then pci-e 1x - short black
then pci-x - long white
then pci-x - long white
then pci - short white

Ok cheers...

The PCI is being used, as well as the PCI-e 8x

I want to add in two PCI cards... how can i do that? Are they any PCI-X to PCI converters?

EDIT: This got my hopes up, 32bit PCI-X and PCI slots are the same, shame mine are 64bit:

Not that I know of, you might be able to find something, but it might be tricky.

maybe you could find a fax modem that is pci-e x1? or pci-x?

I lol'd.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
