I've just bought a Zalman VF900 to cool my BFG 7950GT, which has reached 96 degrees

Anyway, my questions are:

How easy is it to leave off the speed controller ?

Can the fan speed be controlled by the card, in the usual way ?

Is it worth the hassle, or should I just leave it at full speed ?

The card idles now at 48 degrees. (stock cooler)
Under load it's around 76 - 82 degrees.

Opinions and options please...

just put the fan controller. the card can't control the zalman fan. at first set it at full speed and then load the gpu and see the temps. lower the fan speed till you are satisfied with noise levels and temps.

very, just don't plug it in

no, you can only control it with a fan controller

depends how loud your rig is and how concerned with noise levels you are. If you don't mind it running @100%, leave it.

yeah, that is pretty hot, the vf900 should give you a nice drop.

the vf900 is a pretty good cooler, the vf1000 is probs overkill. The thermalright hr-03 is the best, but is rather big. apart from 1 PCI card you won't be able to have any add-in cards

While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
