sup guys

been reading some stuff about these they seem a pretty good option for a ~£200 graphics solution .... Looking at a few tests the 9600's perform poorly individually but pack a punch in SLi, outperforming cards like the GTS, GTX etc.

Seems like a good solution? Thoughts? Ebuyer currently have them for £106 each ... http://www.ebuyer.com/product/141669

For a system with an Oc'd E6550, 680i mobo, 520W PSU, 2GB 800Mhz RAM for playing mainly COD4, Battlefield 2142, "some" crysis

A 520W PSU for an SLI setup?

You're brave.

You'll probably need a bigger better one than that.

Just might be enough if it's the Corsair HX 520W. 3x 18A in 12V rails.

EVGA recommends 28A for a single one though..

It probably is just about enough. But you never want to have just about enough. You want a bit of extra headroom.

I've got a Corsair HX520W. I wouldn't use it to run 9600GTs in SLI.

You can always try with that PSU first (since it seems to have 3x19A in 12V rails), and then sell it and get a new if it doesn't work.

Why would he need to sell it? He could just return it and get back all the money he paid for it and his postage costs.

Surely the online calculator couldn't be that wrong?

Yeah, stupid me.

Well, that calculator tends to calculate it a tad low. You never know..

They can be very wrong. Power consumption is very hard to predict and the result that site gives is the power that your system will use. Your 520W PSU will not actually provide you with 520W, you'll get maybe 80-85% of that.

Also, if you're expecting to get your E6550 clocked upto 4GHz (as suggested by the numbers you put into that calculator), think again.

That was more of an extremity tbh .... so how much do I need then? 650? 700?

650W would be plenty. That'd give you a bit of room for upgrades too. That way if you want a new hard drive or something, you don't have to replace your PSU.

Considering the price, yeah same here.  Where I buy from, there is only about a £20 difference between the 9600 and 8800 :\

I just did it as an "extreme" with the calculator is all ... wanted to make sure that the PSU would be enough ... how much can I expect to get from an E6550 with a F7P? Stock is .. 2.66Ghz ...

Stock is more like 2.33GHz?

I'd expect it to get to 3.0-3.6GHz with F7P depending on the individual.
