I just got a new 37" HDTV it only has 720p so I was wondering which will give me the best picture and video? the 360 VGA and HDMI cables are the same price.
I lost my component HD cable a while ago so I decided not to buy a new one and just wait till I got my new TV

I think both can go up to 1080p. But, since your TV can only goes up to 720p, it doesn't matter. But I would go with HDMI. It carries sound in the same cable.

If the xbox has HDMI go with that. You will also have better sound (HDMI is video and audio).

HDMI is the newer high def cable, and was made for higher definition setups...
I don't see how it could be worse then the VGA, so if they are the same price.
(then again I don't know what I am talking about)

If HDMI is a higher quality cable, you may not be able to use all its benifits at 720p but for the same price you might as well. If you upgrade or take it to a friends house who CAN use the difference it would be nice to have the better cable already.

Either one should technically work fine.  Either supports 720p. The benefit of HDMI is that you have all the sound and video data in one cord, rather than 4 for the component method (3 for video, an additional one for audio, if you go optical). I would personally go with HDMI, because it's more convenient and has more room for expansion in the future.

Wiki:
Component video is capable of carrying signals such as 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p, although many TVs do not support 1080p through component video.

OK so HDMI it is then, It should output 720p crystal clear from what you have said and there is no point is getting a 37" 1080p TV. Now I just have to find an AMP that has HDMI and 7.1 surround to go with my home theater. The TV was for my B-DAY there is a 47" 1080p up stairs in the living room but thats my parents TV so.

HDMI carries a much higher bandwidth than component cables which results in a picture that has less fast-motion-blur, and a clearer, sharper picture. HDMI also carries 7 channels of independent digital audio which the VGA cables do not. VGA support analog sound only and will not produce a picture any higher than 720p.

HDMI is going to give you a better picture, period, and it also carries 7 independent digital audio channels which results in a much better sound experience. Ultimately what you should use is an HDMI cable, along with an optical audio cable for your sound. I think you just have to purchase than cheap 360 dongle piece to hook up the optical, which will result in a sound quality higher than that of an HDMI cable.

EDIT: If you're thinking about taking your TV back and going with a 1080p then do it. You CAN tell a difference. Not to mention that all new technologies, games, and programming are going to be based on 1080p. So why sell yourself short especially if you're going with a full surround sound setup? 1080p is not that much more and you'll be glad that you went with it.

The video quality will be the same. You will not get a better picture using HDMI. The only difference is that one signal is analog and one digital. If you have a very long VGA cable you may notice a difference. Both cables are capable of supporting resolutions well in excess in 1080p.

Audio quality would be better done through a separate dedicated cable and not coming out of the TV.

Why get 1080p TV that is smaller then 42"? the will be no difference it will look exactly the same. the room isent that big and having a TV bigger then 37" is pointless.(the space in the wall wont fit any thing bigger also) not to mention 1080p on a smallish TV is pointless.

and BeerzGod VGA can carry Higher then 720p, right now my computer is running 1600x1200 so that even higher then 720p
