I agree , why waste the money and I would add another 1 GB of memory as well or 2 GB for max performance.

Just take Ultimate x64
64 bit so you are prepared for the future
Ultimate because it has added features, like Dreamscene, Remote desktop connection and some other stuff.

If you feel that you need / will use the extra features Ultimate has, get it. If not, then get Home Premium.

That.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Ditto.

And get both 64bit and 32bit - annoyingly I can't find the details right now, but I think as long as you buy a retail box, not OEM, you get both 64bit and 32bit in the box - or that might just be with Ultimate and you have to send off for a disk of the other versions, or summat like that - anyhoo, get both and install each one into separate partitions.

OH and, as others have pointed out, I believe it would be a good idea to get yourself another gig of RAM.

I have a 8800GT, but I don't play anygames that use DX10 and I have Vista.  heck, I have one computer that doesn't have a DX10 card and I use Premium 64bit on that and the other one with the 8800GT I have Business 32bit on that.

Ah, here's that thing about sending off for 64bit Vista - just buy 32bit, go to that link, select you language, country, enter your 32bit product key and other info, they'll snail-mail you a 64bit DVD and away you go.

And, as I thought, you get both with Ultimate.

Home premium 64-bit + another gig of ram.

edit: another 2gig if you can afford it (altough money doesn't seem to be an issue if you bought an 9800GTX , 2 gigs of ram is around €40 )

IMO XP > Vista any day.

The only thing DX10 really does is lower your FPS for a tiny bit of eyecandy.

I went from XP Pro 32-bit to Vista Ultimate 32-bit to XP Pro 64-bit and I'm happy now.

I just use VMWare with 32-bit Windows installed to run my 16-bit applications.
