I saw this awhile ago on HBO. I noticed someone posted it on Google Vid.
It's an interesting take on "History".

I do take exception to his comments about the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812.  Unless I am completely mistaken, it was fought before they knew the war was over.  It wasn't a case like describes, with the US attacking a retreating/withdrawing enemy.

You aren't.

Besides the fact no one knew about the Treaty of Ghent, the British were attacking American defenders.

And on topic, didn't Lenin say "Repeat the same lie enough and it becomes truth."

What he was suggesting was the victory was not as great as "the legend" said it was. The number of British involved were much lower than expected.. like you said, they were not aware the war was over..lol

Well obviously. At the time, any victory over a much more established and powerful European power would be glorified.

Was Tours really as decisive as we make it out to be, or big of a rout? Probably not.

Charles Martel kicked ass.

Edit:  In Inferno, Dante met a guy named Charles Martel, and I always used to confuse him with the better Martel.  I guess Dante disliked some obscure prince or something.  Just a factoid for those who care.

In any sense the British had begun leaving.  They just hadn't gotten out of Louisiana yet.

Why would they mount an offensive action if they were retreating?

He did. But, I think his victory there was glorified beyond what actually happened.

I'm assuming the position that the British were unaware as well. They were preparing to attack Alabama after the treaty was signed also. They didn't get the message until mid February.

I'm about halfway through and Google Video has decided not to load any further. A lot of what he's saying does have historical merit but anyone who has taken a cursory glance into these matters ought to know better. Just watching the show though, I get the impression of it being a flashy pizzazz show for the cameras, plus his "jokes" are terrible.

Do ya think? ..lol

Remember this was on HBO. I found the entertainment to be in our desire to rewrite/manipulate our "glorious" history.
