Don't ever get Time Warner Internet in the area they designate as "North Texas." Absolutely terrible. Connection is always come and go. Constant high latency and loss of packets. They've sent so many technicians out here who do nothing.

As you can see here, it isn't too bad. On fantastic days, it gets around 6800/490. On Sunday, it was at 800/65. I also never manage to get a good ping to a server <50 miles away.

So how much is comca$t squeezing out of you for all that considering you hardly use half of the power and most of it is for bragging rights anyways?

the only thing that sucks about cable is you have to share the connection.  if everyone is gaming and downloading pr0nz you will have a slower overall speed.  i like dsl because it is all you.

DSL works for me but yes I can't wait for Verizon FIOS to be available in my area as well.

DSL, only available in my area. Well, excpt from the TV network uplink, but it casts twice as much, and is 512/128. Can't believe that they're still in business...

Also, my upload is 1.5Mbit, but speedtest fails to get more. Not even the school's uplink (100/100 fiber) gets more than about 1000kb/s.

EDIT: With another phone jack:

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Hey, another net connection e-peen thread (not because of OP, relax). I wonder if this one will get flamed to hell too.

Hopefully people will be able to prove their 2Gb/s connections this time.
