yes, thats $112,000,000,000.00

article from cnn.com saying how much single parents cost the taxpayers

I know for a fact in Maine, if you have a job any job you cannot get state assistance to help you pay for child care while you work. What do mothers do? Quit there jobs and apply for state assistance. Paying for child care for children is damned expensive for a couple/single parent living on minimum wage. Will the State help these people who actually pay taxes. No. Do they have programs to help people who are on welfare and dont do a damned thing. Yes

That's a failure of the system.  I've said many times that you can't just cut off assistance when some one gets a job.  Reduce the amount they get, but don't just cut them off.

Actually paying for day care is damn expensive for anyone, single parent, couple, minimum wage or decent salary.

No one can stay on welfare indefinitely. Since welfare reform in the 1990s anyone receiving benefits has to find employment after 2 years and can only receive a maximum of 5 years of benefits.

So yes, it costs, but this study's purpose seems to be to promote marriage more than reducing costs, given that families can still receive benefits.

Its just a shame that people quit there jobs because they are better off living off the state. Sure its a nice thing to have, but there are a lot of low-lifes out there abusing the system and having not one, but several children with no father or living with their boyfriend/babies daddy and never getting married just so they can qualify for more money.

The myth that will never die.

The idea that a woman would have more children just to get more benefits was a popular exaggeration perpetuated by Reagan when he first ran for president in 1976.

There have been a few cases of welfare fraud but they were only a small percentage of those on welfare. The real woman Reagan's story was based on only received $8,000 fraudulently (NY Times)

This is all moot anyway as TANF (the program that replaced "welfare" aka. AFDC) carries no exemption for the time limits on benefits relating to children (so whether a woman has 2 kids or 10 kids she is still limited to 5 years of benefits).

The light of truth shines in these words.

Word.  My wife is a stay at home mom because of two reasons..one of them is because for her to get a job that pays not only for the day care we'd need AND something to contribute towards our debt load, would not be possible.  So the main reason, to be the person nurturing our kids and not some college dropout mom who had a 'child development class' in high school wanting to make some cash by babysitting; is satisfied and our kids are better off raising their mommy.

Wish i could get the costs..I wanna say it's several hundred dollars a week per child or for 3 kids..not sure.

Evidence that the marriage system is important, if couples don't rush into it.

True, but hopefully their kids will pay for Your healthcare when You get old.
Criminals however will never contribute to society, they are just money out the window no matter if they are out or in jail. You pick up the tab.
In my country an average woman cost society 300.000 US$ while an average man contributes 100.000 US$ (doesn't add up I know!).

The healthy working men pay for all the others. Life...
