hey guys
Ok so i have been browsing for a nice 24" monitor .. i found the Samsung SM245B on ebuyer for £290; http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130991#
I am confused as to HDCP, I thought it was something which enabled you to connect a HDMI device such as xbox 360/ps3/blu-ray player to the monitor .. but after watching a tigerdirect video review i am now under the impression this feature will prevent rips pirated media etc. being watched on the monitor through the included DVI cable ... .. could someone with a samsung panel please comment as I'm confused as to what this means ..
one definition for HDCP ; http://www.liteonit.eu/index.php?option … emid=184#H
HDCP stands for High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection.
HDCP is a form of digital rights management (DRM) developed by Intel Corporation to control digital audio and video content as it travels across Digital Visual Interface (DVI) or High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) connections.
HDCP's main target is to prevent transmission of non-encrypted high definition content.
HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc playback devices allow content providers to set an Image Constraint Token (ICT) flag that will only output full-resolution digital signals using HDCP. If such a player is connected to a non-HDCP-enabled television set and the content is flagged, the player will output a downsampled 480p signal. For computers systems this flagging means that playback of HD content will not be possible unless there is an HDCP compliant monitor and a HDCP compliant graphics card. This kind of hardware are becoming more widespread available.
cheers
