can you buy a converter from a molex or other common connector in a psu to a 6 or 8 pin?

ie could i buy this; http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135159 and buy a converter later on if i wanted to run a more powerful graphics option from it? I'd only use 1 hd and 1 dvd drive so there's plenty of cables spare ...

cheers

I believe that both my pci express video cards came with the adapter.  It uses up 2 molex connectors.  I know at least one of them did because I have it in my box of useless cables.

Just googled.

Something like this?

There seems to be plenty about both molex to 6 pin and molex to 8 pin, so yeah.

My PSU came with a couple of 2 molex plugs to one 6/8-pin PCI-E.

But it came with direct 6/8 pins too.

you need two 6 pin pci-e connectors to make one 8 pin.
you need two molex to make one 6 pin.

Well that OCZ PSU comes with one 6/8 pin connection but I just wanted to know if when I upgrade I could use a more powerful card with the PSU

Do you? With my 7900, is was a Molex > Molex + 6 pin connector .... what about what Maxwell posted then? The Molex > Molex + 8 pin connector?

If I remember correctly... the 6 pin cable max capacity is 75W and the 8 pin is 150W.
There are a lot adapters that fake the 8 pin but those can't do the 150W so in some scenarios the GFX card that requires 8 pin connector (9800GX2 for example) might not get as much power as it needs.

edit: ah there it is... http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1220

1 6-pin PCI-e connector capable of drawing +12V up to 6.25A and
1 8-pin PCI-e connector capable of drawing +12V up to 12.5A

speaking of which. Using an adaper may not be a good idea. I wouldn't put much more current than 5A per molex cable, so to use a molex --> 8pin adapter you'd need at least 3 molex cables with nothing else on them
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

yeah.  also worth noting that if the PSU has multiple rails.... don't use molex to pci-e converters since those PSUs have seperate rails for rest of the PC and GPUs. Using molex converter stresses only the mobo rail which means BAD.
