Is there a way/program that will enable me to ensure online games get precedence over everything else on my connection? I hate playing Call of Duty 4 and suddenly getting saddled with 500 ping because someone got on Youtube.

So you're sharing your internet connection with others in the house? If thats the case you can't do anything about it, besides not letting them do anything while you're playing cod4

You might be able to limit other users' bandwidth in your router settings.

So nothing to prioritize packets or anything?

You could try installing a program on their computer like NetLimiter, but that ain't exactly discreet.

They prioritize game related packets...

You could break yours and say, "Oh, my friend recommended this one"

and paint over the "Gaming" part on it

It isn't bothersome to the point I would be motivated to spend money on it.

what you're looking for is QoS. Too bad only corporate routers/some gaming router have that function. If you have an old PC lying around I suppose you could turn that into your own home-brew router though. Not exactly discrete and power saving though

While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Yup there is. Download netlimiter pro (you have to pay for it, so go 'acquire' it on the internet).  http://www.netlimiter.com/
Lets you see all your connections, how much up and down bandwidth they're using, and restrict each ones bandwidth. My friend uses it to limit his brother's bittorents while he's playing games.
