Trying to dual-boot XP/Vista

So I had XP installed, and reformated and installed Vista. Games were kinda laggy so I decided to install XP and my games on my Raptor and use Vista for everything else.

I unplugged my Vista drive while doing that so that I didn't mess anything up. Apparently I shouldn't have, according to a few guides.

So my question now is, how do I make the Vista boot loader load XP without reformating anything again?

I've tried programs like EasyBCD and VistaBoot Pro and they didn't help any. I can add an entry but it just says I'm missing hal.dll from <windows root>\system32 or something...

It is not accessing the right path to load XP.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I did see that thread, it doesn't help me. He's trying to remove Vista from his XP, and I'm trying to add XP to my Vista...completely different problem.

And I can't get into my XP recovery console because it keeps asking me for an Administrator password and I don't even have one.

See if any of those helps you. I would probably try the floppy boot disk.

Okay I managed to get into the recovery console. I typed fixboot and then restarted. Vista no longer loaded, it just went straight to XP. According to the guide I read, this is supposed to happen. So, as per the guide, I stuck in my Vista DVD and repaired it so that it worked again. The guide says to go to EasyBCD and add XP. I do that, and it still gives me the same "hal.dll not found" error...

What am I doing wrong here?

Install Vista Boot Pro or EasyBCD
then use that to configure your boot options.

Make sure you are installing the operating systems on different drivers or partitions. You need to install XP first, then Vista. No problem. I have a box with Vista 64-bit and XP running this way.

Seriously.

I fixed Vista with the repair tool. The guide I was reading said that that is supposed to happen, and to just repair it... which I did.

NOW I need to add XP to the Vista boot loader, but it's not working. It's not pointing to the right path or something. I just keep getting the "<windows root>system32/hal.dll not found replace the file" or something to that extent.

I have tried using EasyBCD, selecting WindowsXP but it only lets me select C:\. I tried that, didn't work. Tried putting ntldr, ntdetect.com, and boot.ini on C:\ root and that didn't work either.

I tried VistaBoot loader and that lets me select Vista or "Windows Legacy", so I tried Windows Legacy on E:\ and that didn't work (same error as above).

Damnit.

EDIT: Here is my boot.ini which is on my Vista drive:

XP is installed on my second drive and on the only partition, so is that pointing to the right place?

I read the post fine. Quit fucking around and install the operating systems in the order I indicated and you won't have this fucking problem. This could have been done already with the time wasted trying to fix the boot problem.

Because I don't feel like reinstalling XP, all the drivers, software, games, and then install Vista with all the drivers, software, games again.
