Have you ever got really into a band a few years ago, then just stumbled across the album again, put it on and been blown away?

Just happened to me, The River - Bruce Springsteen

For me it was The Sundays.

Loved the first two albums but didn't like the single from the third and skipped it.

Ten years later I bought it and was like wowzers.

Well thats a toughie as the stuff I used to listen to as a kid I still like now (Guns n Roses, UB40) so it never leaves me but I suppose if I go back to dance music then yes but it's certain songs not albums from 1998-2000

I started to listen to the classics from Iron Maiden: The Trooper, Aces High, Mother Russia etc, nice change from the constant banging tunes from Angerfist and Evil Evil Activities.

Now I'm listning to "War" by U2. Fantastic album - If you havn't heard it, get it, it's U2 before they went pop, just a lot of pissed off Irish boys expressing themselves through music

It's fantastic!

Recently I've rediscovered a whole lot of (euro?)dance sorta songs from the late 90's and early 2000's that were big when I was in primary (elementary for the Americans, I believe) school. Good memories related to those songs.

Saw them in the MEN arena and was one of the best gigs I've been to.

Could you give examples.

Im talking "Ibiza" music/commercial Dance music.  A lot of it is European for eg Paul van Dyke.

I know what you mean about Elementary for Americans but check the bit in American Pie when the girl starts stripping off on the Webcam and a song is playing (Calling your name, an amazing tune and totally misplaced in that song, she was a Euro though and maybe thats why it is in it).

Cafe del mar
El Ninio
Beachball
de lacey - Hideaway
Tori Amos - Professional Widow
Stardust - Music sounds better
Baby d - Fantasy

Just to name a few really, all from my earlier clubbing days when we went out and the only fluid to pass our lips once inside the club was water.

Some good albums out now to help bring those amazing nights back for me.

Thankfully as I predicted a lot of older stuff is making a comeback this year for eg, Toca's Miracle and all the speed garage sounding stuff but that was more Ayia Napa than Ibiza and I only liked some of it but as I have said many times here I was so lucky that I caught Ibiza when it peaked in '98 and clubbed in the best clubs in the world, swam in Manumission before the sex party came on and danced with Madonna in Es'paradise when the water didn't work and the floor/pool failed to fill.  Rumour has it she goes round telling people she "Clubbed with '27" while he took is last Disco Biscuit (kids, drink will give you a better time than drugs).

I still dance to it now when I go out with the Mrs but just a lot slower.

Although not exactly very 'classic' (... yet)- I do enjoy rediscovering Bloc Party's 'Silent Alarm' every few months. Absolute anthems.

Straying further back into 'older music' is the classic electronic paragons: Aphex Twin's 'Selected Ambient Works II', Portishead's debut, Massive Attack's discography in general.. Autechre's 'Amber'. Does it get any better?
