Holy crap.  Do they really get that much time off?

No wonder it takes forever for change.

Change doesnt really happen unless the Press really starts to crawl up their anus...then they actually have to worry about being reelected.

Actually, the 109th congress (or whatever the republican led congress was before 2006) only had the regular work week of 3 days, and when the 110th started, Pelosi made it 5 day weeks despite the crying from republicans who complained of needing time with their families (read: longer trips to scottland to golf or lobbyist paid fund raising).

But yeah, I'm just about to consider a new voting policy to NEVER reelect any politicians who've enjoyed at least one term.  Sure the entitlements will still be paid out to more people if there's no reelections, but I don't care..it's not like i have a voice in that matter.

Ironchef, your goals would be best served by getting your state to approve term limits for both Representatives and Senators.

But yeah, there's another side to Pelosi's dilemma.  Because of the location of D.C., Congress members who live on the other side of the country  (like Pelosi herself) or in Alaska or Hawaii must periodically travel to their home states or districts.  This requires a certain amount of travel time per month.

Now, I'm obviously aware of the abuses and laziness of certain Congress members, but a lot of the time off really is spent this way.

If anything, this issue often makes me wonder if we should move the capital to a more central location, like Missouri.

A better question really is why can't they just meet on the internet.

Very good point...  I'll second that emotion.
