It's a fucking war. People die every day on both sides. And I'm supposed to care about this dickhead in particular because he's the son of a general I've never head of?
Talk about being insensitive

And if you want to take this a step further, like a guy did in that other thread about the dead cameraman, why should I care about a professional soldier who willingly put himself at risk by volunteering for this unjust war, or for fucking Taliban fighters who destroy other cultures' monuments for that matter? The former knew the dangers and he shouldn't have been there. The latter are scum whose "culture" (if one can call it that) takes the world back to the dark ages. I have no sympathy, sorry. I save that for the numerous other deadly clashes taking place in the world right now.
Funny how you cared so much about a cameraman being killed in that thread and saying it was the Israelis fault eh?
Ok, another one for the record books.  I am (mostly) agreeing with oug.  Well, If you take out the rather inflamitory way he expressed himself and his political rant.  And, seeing how I was the one making the point about the cameraman in the other thread, I would be a pretty hypocritical SOB if I did not hold at least the same standard to soldiers.  Thangs happen in war.  War sucks.

No comment on the unjust war, shouldn't have been there, and the whole dickhead think.
Shocking
sorry you feel that way

Seriously, the Taliban are superior in numbers but not exactly in skill level or equipment. Their aim is to do as much damage as they can isn't it?
According to your last sentence their aim is to confuse. If they want to be able to live to attack again they need a retreat. The detonation devices they use are line of sight.

And seeing as there is almost no way of detecting the guy who detonated the bomb (if it needed a detonater) the best option is to blow up the middle ones, hoping for more damage, and it would create a bit more confusion than blowing up the last one.
AGAIN, that would depend on the circumstance.

Nice quotes, but near useless.
It's an analogy, not a quote. Your whole "Fucking outrage" is based on speculation. And that is near useless.
look we can sit here and discuss airmchair combat stuff all we want but that won't get us anywhere, what's fact is:

the circumstance you're providing basically never happens. You can't really spot someone if you don't know wether it was a bomb on detonation or one you'd have to put pressure on, that's one. Two: you can't really find these people that detonated it in open area. If you move in a group and comb out the area you will be too late and he's probably long gone, if you split up you're stupid because you don't know if there are more of the enemy hiding behind bushes - thus risking the lives of your men even more. This line of sight can be hundreds of meters for all you know.

The Taliban causes damage, and confusion to get away. Suicide bombers are there to get themselves blown to bits not the people who place IEDs.

my outrage is that noone took the initiative to atleast change the name of this kid before he got sent out, there's a good chance that the Taliban knew who he was _that_ is speculation. What they should have done however is make sure he wasn't such a damn easy target to begin with. And now parlement waves it all off saying the Taliban couldn't've possibly known who he was - well I'll tell you what, over there, the odds of that are very slim and I will bet my ass on it that they did.

analogy serves no purpose in my book, so obvious even a child could think of them too. And 99% not viable in actual combat, let alone that it gives any considerable value to modern warfare / fighting a guerilla.

Congrats.. you just did a big circle only to end up in the same spot (more specualation). If anything you made the argument of uncertainty/intent for me. Thank you, I wish more people made it this easy.

Says you. Not obvious enough to be able to discern the difference between an analogy and a quote though. I'll see if I can find a child to explain it to you.

You sign for a period of time in the military, you can't leave when you please. When you signed up before the war began, and get sent out, you go. No second option. If you refuse and desert, you will be imprisoned for about 2 years.

You mock by taking on a stance that what happened to the guy was 'deserved', and there's no need to feel sympathy. Because they got sent out they automatically agreed to the war hm?
Since there is no draft like we have here in Greece, everyone who signs up needs to take those things into account.

Now I never said that he or any soldier "deserves" to die. I said that since it's their professional choice to join the army, being sent to fight a war in a  country like Afghanistan and even the scenario that they might die or suffer serious injuries there, should be taken into account. I cannot see professional soldiers as victims of war, and in that sense I have no sympathy for them as I have for civilians getting caught up in similar situations.

And of course, when you decide to join your country's army, you need to make sure that the decisions of the government coincide with yours. Therefore, in a sense, and although many might not realize it, a soldier automatically agrees to the occasional war...
