I'm not going to bother reading four pages since with this forum it will generally be "whiner this and noob that" but TheBelcorwyn is dead on right. This game is messed up when support is leading flag caps and doing that well in a round. UG.
Edit for brain fart and typing assault instead of support. Long day.

Sooo...we ARE talking about a VIDEO GAME here, right? I'm glad you know how the PKM works in real life, but this IS a game. People in real life can jump and shoot. In real life a pound of C4 takes time to be set, but one should devastate damn near anything (right?). In real life, PILOTS fly planes, not footsoldiers toting around .50cal machine guns.R0lyP0ly wrote:
You babies are retarded. The PKM was designed by the Russians for the 7.62 x 39mm rounds. That's one big ass cartridge. It IS a dam sniper rifle, it just doesn't have the precision of a scope, as does the m95,m24,etc. The M24, as utilized by the US Army, fires a 7.62 x 51mm roundd - only 12mm wider. Thats why the PKM has the killing power of the sniper rifle. Its accuracy is because of the design - with a heavier barrel (as compared to other LMG's), a lever feed mechanism rather than a sliding feed, which limits the number of moving parts and thus chances of malfunction.
Quite your whining about it being a sniper rifle - it pretty much is, firing ammunition of similar caliber and a tried-and-true Russian design which gives increased stability (hence bipod) and its accuracy...SO PICK UP THE SHATTERED PIECES OF YOUR LIFE AND MOVE ON!!!
Leave the patch as is.
Actually, I ain't been on SF for a while. Have they updated the SAS to use the British sniper?

Oh you mean you coudln't shoot a moving target and needed them to slow the game down so you could hang. I got ya. Ya know, every Battlefield game before did fine with people being able to jump and shoot. How dare people try to avoid being shot by jumping! Terrible!Moonraker_x29 wrote:

Hey Laser-Brain......take the time to actually think before you post.....If he sat in a tank or APC, he certainly would have scored Best Armor with that score. But, no, best armor had score of 43. Sheer brilliance on your part.{KAOS}DesertWraith wrote:

DICE, stop changing game mechanics. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and it seems like the demise of this wonderful game is as well. Catering to the moaners and complainers, the people who should work on increasing their ability to play the game rather than displace fault onto external forces, is a sure way to deconstruct an otherwise amazing opus artis.

Exactly Skruples. Not only that...you can't even get ammo from 90% of them. I personally like the way the PKM is now, but they should un-nerf the GL to counter it.Skruples wrote:
Would people stop flaming the OP for posting his good score? His point was not that he's a crazy badass and you should all bow down, his point was the PKM is an ungodly killing machine now, and I tend to agree. When I use this kit I find myself killing more people than I do with an assault rifle or the g36e, which is just wrong. Need I remind anyone that the PKM belong to the support kit? The support guys arent supposed to be running around kicking the ever living shit out of any infantry, theyre supposed to be supporting their team.

I couldn't agree more.
I've got way more respect for the guy using the PKM prone & deployed - than I do for a guy using armor or throwing grenades. ( or even worse - tossing C4s and using the M203/GP30/F2000GL )
Honestly, even with the new PKM and added accuracy - I haven't even noticed it effecting me much at all. I play mainly Medic w/G36, and Assault with AK101/G3.
Nope.
Doesn't bother me - maybe that's becasue I usually kill them first -
If you don't like them so much - kill them first!
Hop in a Hummer/vodnik - run behind them, hop out and own. Or you can just mount the gun if you're scared of dying - press F2 and fire away.
PKM solved.
KK, let's just /delete the Assault kit from the game. gg kthanksxz. Now that everyone can pick up a light machine gun whenver they want, and since it's completely realistic, obviously 2/3 of every team can select a light machine gun.
Imagine how cool saving prviate ryan would be if everyone in their squad had a BAR, because they were obviously the most powerful guns.
Full Metal Jacket would've been kickass if everyone in their squad had an M60 machine gun. /pwnzorzx

I'd like to throw another tidbit in about the accuracy -
I was sniping at the hill to the west of the Airbase flag, and I saw a guy in South Base. I shot him, hit him in the leg (bah ) and had to reload. He went prone on the first hill towards Airbase, and fired about 10 rounds at me. Guess what? I died. Sniper rifle range on a LMG. Real life be damned, fix that

Yes Slink, we are talking about a video game. Yet the developers have obviously made a sincere effort on their part to bring realism in every aspect. People seem to have twisted views that a sniper rifle is much more powerful than a LMG, and if this game is realistic it should be that way. I'm just shedding light on just how alike a LMG and a sniper rifle truly are.
And another thing - people complain about "in real life you can do this and that...blah blah blah" yet the same individual claims that blah blah should be allowed because it's just a game. You can't get the best of both worlds, buddy. It's either a game and you take glitches with a grain of salt, or you complain about every tiddly-bit that that doesn't "toe the line" to real life combat ---which, by the way, only an honorable few have experienced and even fewer to live to tell about it.

Slight typo, new sentence should read"...if this game is realistic then it should NOT be that way"
***1st paragraph 2 sentence***

Sniping isn't what it used to be when going up against the PKM. You now have to be in a position where you can take cover and stay hidden during reloads. If you don't kill on the first shot, you have to lay low for a bit so he doesn't know your position. Wait for him to move slow or go prone, then take him out.Slink wrote:

A more powerful scope, and less fog, would be a fair trade versus the new PKM.
Heh, give it a month and I'm sure all of the "noob tube" adversaries will have found a new favorite enemy, the PKM.starkingdoms.com wrote:

Without replying to the obvious lack of applied logic expressed in the above quote( ), I would like to state on my honor that the only vehicle I entered that entire round was the insurgent tactical pick-up truck. I generally dislike using armor, in fact, as I find that I'm simply too easy a target.{KAOS}DesertWraith wrote:

I just used the PKM for a round on Sharqi, I got 30 kills with it, even sniped a guy off the top of the TV station.
It's way too accurate.

Actually RolyPoly the PKM fires 7.62x54 ammo...not x39...it shoots the same round as the SVD...just a little ammo info for ya...R0lyP0ly wrote:

There's always going to be a problem with the game. Basically - it's going to be whatever weapon kills the most whiners.TheBelcorwyn wrote:

When in a game- there are a million ways to avoid getting your ass handed to you ... even if you're a crappy player.
Squad up... TEAMPLAY MAKES A DIFFERENCE. I've been in rounds where I'm the gold star guy with my name all over the stats - but there's no teamplay. If you've got good teamplay going, crap - you're not going to go wrong. Sure, I can take out a couple guys, but if six dudes get an organized hit on me ... do I have a chance? I'll tell you no right now.
SPOT THEM! If the team knows (and you've got teamplay - note - teamplay yet again! Teamplay, it's magical! ) they're going down.
Pick a new spawn... this works wonders.
Hide... use the buildings & obstacles... see above. PKM doesn't shoot thru concrete barricades, rocks, and buildings.
I mean - I could sit here and list them for a while!
It's about keeping yourself alive in the round, while getting kills. I had a problem with "staying alive" for the longest - but I think I've got it all rounded out these days.
If you're sitting there getting negative ratios ( kills < deaths ) - you're the problem, not the game. You need to rethink what you're doing, play some SP until you can get insane ratios ( like, say a 10:1 ) - then try your hand at multiplay again. If all else fails, pick a server without good people on it if you feel that bad after a round.
Or better yet, keep playing with people that are WAY BETTER THAN YOU until you start to kill them. Use the weapon that you've got the most trouble with. Use pistol. Make things tougher on yourself. Do enough of that, eventually you'll get better. It's only natural -um- unless you're retarded or slothly or something... if that's the case then maybe you should hit the Xbox/PS2/360 with the autoaim. That's more of the whiner's style. "ZOMG I SUCK AT THIS GAME! MAKE IT EASIER FOR ME!" ( DICE makes it easier for you with patch ) -> "ZOMG, NOW I SUCK WORSE BECUZ THEY CAN KILL ME EASIER THEN EVAR!!"
ORLY? [ insert owl pic ]
That's just what's going to happen. Over, and over, and over. Only the people that really enjoy the title will come out and play. BF2 apparently is one of the more popular titles in the series - for obvious reasons. More players = more whiners.
I don't want to see BF2 become another Crap-Strike - where even pistols are on par with the best guns. UBER-LAME. Let the crap stay with the crap. BF2 kicks ass as-is, as-was. Don't cater to people that just plain suck. They're not going to get anything anywhere ... except to "this title now sucks". But, at the end of the day ... they're still going to be crappy players, they'll leave - and the old players that would have bought the next title in the series will have left thanks to suck-ness. Go figure.

For the 7.62x54R mm and 7.62 x 51mm, 54mm and 51mm refer to the cartridge length if I am not wrong. (not width). And like you said, it has a heavier barrel as compared to the thin shorter barrels of the assault rifles.bob_6012 wrote:

first of all, YAY FLAME WAR!
second, if you're fighting a shitload of PKM wielders, just hop in an APC they can't hurt you now. The PKM was just much too innaccurate before the patch. I'm sorry you think is overpowered now, but honestly I believe the change was positive. Also, before I think a lot of people didn't play support before simply because it was very hard to hit anything with the LMGs. Now that you can more easily use them, more people will do so.
third, In my experience, the post-1.2 PKM is still only accurate from the hip or crouched when you're looking down the sights. Without that it's still horribly inaccurate, and you're lucky to hit people beyone point-blank. This is important for a couple reasons:
1) Your movement is severely hampered when you're looking down the sights.
2) The gun takes up a lot of your screen and makes it harder to spot people.
There are a lot of ways to take out anyone using the "god"-gun du jour. Learn them and please let's all just play the game.

I was on top of a building once, and there was a PKM wielder 30 m away, facing the other direction. I went prone with my M16 and began to fire at him. He then wipped around and fired FROM THE HIP and killed me. (All in less than 2 seconds)
so the PKM is more accurate now ? Well, guess what, learn, adapt, overcome. There is nothing in that game that cannot be conquered through good teamplay. If you attack a LMG in prone position on a open field from the front, you are just plain stupid and deserve to get blown to bits.
I know the comparison to real life is somewhat flawed, but would any sensible infantry platoon attack a LMG position like that ? Of course not.
Smoke him, have your sniper take him out, flank him and get him from the back, get armor support. there are lots of possibilities here, provided you play within a squad.
And if you don't like playing in a squad and prefer the lone wolf action, well too bad for you. You obviously have no idea what this game is about...
Personally, I don't find myself getting killed by PKM's any more than before 1.2, and really, it doesn't bother me that much because I know my trusty squad will get the sucker and revive my ass.
