CPU's have had locked multis for ages. What are you complaining about?
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

no need. I hit the max OC just fine with locked multipliers (heat being the limiting factor). My board can go up to 480mhz FSB so that is enough till 4ghz

I don't even have an quadcore, I have a E6600 . And can someone explain to me why the E6600 is still much more expensive compared to the E6750?

intel don't drop the price on old CPUs. Thats why P4 EE are still retailing 1k+$

Well there you go, intel are saying, if you want it, pay for it.

Personally, I dont see why you would need/want the multiplier unlocked.  4Ghz is becoming a fairly standard OC amoung enthusiasts with the 45nm parts, anything more than that is only of use in benchmarking, little in the way of real world benifits.
