- Any interest in a US-Based trackr.net TF2 or DOD:S server?
You guys are way too performance oriented. What about having some fun? I've played on the EU get-togethers and the EU BF2 server a lot, and the performance is not significantly different. Pings from Virginia to EU and vice versa are something like 110-130. Yeah, it is a little more sluggish but for me that's not big deal, I guess.kptk92 wrote:
Of course it'd benefit the US-guys, as you could hold your own Get-Togethers then
But, this idea isn't about ping, rather its about having a place where BF2s/Trackr friends can play and enjoy some fun together.
Maybe I have a different perspective because I play on the crappiest of computers that lags so badly that other people kill me, disconnect and then have dinner before my screen will show I've been killed.
My exact thoughtsDoctaStrangelove wrote:
TF2, but only if it runs only official maps with 24 slots and no reserved slots (unless one of them is for me).
I would love this! As an EU player I'd be concerned about my ping; but I am a big Day of Defeat: Source fan. If the server is located in Virginia / closer to EU than other areas then I would happily be an active member there.
Edit: I have quite a bit of Source admin experience - been admin'ing for at least a year or two now.. (CS Source and TF2)

I for one would love a TF2 server. I play the game almost as much as I did BF2, and I have lots of experience with half-life/source, so learning to admin would be easy.
However, we need the server set up properly: get the right map rotation, have a melee stalemate breaker, and use the right settings.
For maps, I'm thinking:
Granary
Dustbowl
Hydro
and a few quality custom maps, with the occasional fun map
Have reasonable respawn times. the standard is that the defenders have to wait about 3-5 times longer to spawn, which can cause respawn times of 20 seconds. I have noticed that, besides being irritating to players individually, it also has a heavy impact on disadvantaged defending teams. There are plenty of useful plugins available to alter a lot of settings, if done right we can get a very playable server going

Would it be possible to get server on the east coast? Since I'm on the other side of the Atlantic, it'd help my ping as well as a lot of other EU players.
east coast would be awesome, euro players can easily survive on a ping of 90-110 (which I did in both CS 1.5/1.6 and CS:S for about 2,5 years in total, it really isn't bad)
Hydro empties servers. I was on one the other day that had about 20+ players. As soon as Hydro came on there were only 4 of us left. I had a few fun/mess about rounds with the guys left then quit.

Yes, the intent is to get the server in Virginia, which is a pretty major hub of the internet ... and it keeps EU pings down.Fat_Swinub wrote:

This. Remember, we're all kiddies that care way more about our k/d than where who is paying the electricity bill.OrangeHound wrote:

I agree, there's nearly no one from the West Coast on bf2s.cablecopulate wrote:

I don't have dod but for TF2:
I agree with Lucien. If it is east coast then it should be fine playing, although might take some getting used to as i mostly play with about 30 atm. If the server is kept full which knowing the community is quite likely I would be on it quite a bit.
A good map rotation would be Dustbowl, Gravel pit, granary.
Although maybe just dustbowl/gravel pit or even 24/7 dustbowl xD. Not everyone would agree with me on the last bit though .
SourceMod has some pretty cool stuff to add to the server like changing respawns, letting players play radio along with others.
In conclusion I think a trackr TF2 server would be awesome. Now all we need is an EU one...

KNTL should form an alliance with BF2s/trackrPeter wrote:

It won't come up any more . I think the subscription has run out. Rackage's piss poor customer service haven't notified liq or sent emails though so he's not sure what's going on.kptk92 wrote:

There has been some discussion on that... That's all I am saying.Peter wrote:

i vote a DoD server, its got quicker gameplay and some wicked good maps. (avalanche isnt a map, its an ugly offspring that should be shot)
I thought I was the only one who didn't like Avalanche ...seymorebutts443 wrote:

You'd be surprised, alot of clan servers dont run it because its unbalanced. Donner and flash are the best, with argentan and kalt a close second.OrangeHound wrote:

i would admin either TF2 or DoD:S, but my clan already has a tf2 server and we need a server for the DoD:S get together so I vote DoD:S
I could admin both so long as we don't have any gay rules.
BF2s has always promoted a "Don't ask, don't tell" policy ... so basically, gays as well as straights are allowed to play on our servers.DoctaStrangelove wrote:
