What the footage doesn't mention, because back then he was just another pilot, is that the plane the rocket hit was flown by potential president John McCain. He escaped the burning plane and jumped out an ran away just before all hell broke loose...

Wow, that's a cool clip. Shows how there is lots of danger even for personnel not directly involved in combat.

Neat video. My dad served on the USS Forrestal in the late 70's.

You'd think the video makers could have checked the spelling for name of the ship though.

Yeah, that was a horrible accident. The crew were lucky that it did not snowball any further than it did, or they might have lost the ship.
