I would have OS installed on it and couple games and programs. The rest would be stored on a Raptor. Should i go for it and where will i see the biggest improvements?

You have to ask yourself how much faster it is than your current raptor. If diffrence is only a few mb/s then not in my opinion.

Loading times are important to me (windows, games).

those read and write speeds are terrible, you will notice a difference with latency, as ssd's have a less than .1ms avg seek time, where the raptor has something like 5ms if I remember right.

I don't think its worth it but its your money, you can do what ever you want.

Like what everybody is saying so far, its not worth it.

That Transcend disk really isn't the best SSD around. Not even close. If you're doing side-by-side on fresh installs, it actually takes twice as long for the Transcend to start up Windows XP as it does for a regular 7200 RPM disk. You're going to see things swinging in the SSDs favour when the disk starts getting fragmented, but I really doubt that it's ever going to be enough to outweigh the sluggish performance of that disk.

I'm waiting for later generation SSDs before I get mine.

This the new SSD from Transcend. Its either this or a Velociraptor 150Gb.

I'd say Velociraptor.

You have a SAS controller?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

It's still too early to get an SSD for a desktop.

I'm dying to get one but I'm waiting until I can get more bang for my buck.

To give you an idea...Apple charges over $900 USD to add a 64Gig SSHD to the MacBook Air.

But that's Apple. 1GB RAM costs $700.

Not true. Do you want a real stock price from Apples parts database?

If so, it's £71.28 for a 1GB SO-DIMM. As opposed to £12.91 from OCUK (5 and half times more expensive). The funny thing is, the Apple RAM comes with a one year warranty and the cheap stuff comes with a lifetime warranty.

That's the price that service providers get it for. Consumers won't get it that cheap, there's typically a 20-30% markup.
