I have an ASUS M2N-E SLI motherboard with built in sound card, and recently I've not been able to use my microphone when I have a music playback program open, or a program that uses audio (Team speak also fails me, I can only hear, not send audio)

As soon as I close that program, iTunes, Windows media player etc. My microphone will work in Sound recorder, as soon as I open it, it fails. I use C-media 6501 sound as a codec and it's really starting to annoy me that I can't listen to music and use my mic in bf2 at the same time.

I'm not very good on the audio side of things, but I guess I can't just download any audio driver so my microphone will work?

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and the default windows drivers do not pick up my audio.

This happens to me sometimes, I fix it by going into control panel, sound and audio settings, advanced volume, recording, and mute everything but microphone.

Any chance you could give me the exact walkthrough? I can get into audio and sound settings, and on XP I have lots of different tabs and I'm not exactly sure where to go.

If it helps anymore, when I play BF2. I make a squad, press B, the icon doesn't show up, and no sound is made to indicate I am speaking. However, if I am the squad leader and I press V. I get a sound to indicate that I am speaking, however in both situations the icon (green/yellow) show up, nor can my squad members hear me speak, it's getting annoying as I like to play with my clan and communicate with the commander.
