Which new laptop?

After the advice I got in the last topic, I picked out the following two models.

My budget is £500.

Uses: General Use (internet, skype etc.), nothing particularly demanding, light gaming (BF2, CS:S). Wont play new games on this laptop as I use my Xbox360.

So would just like your opinions on which one is better, or if anyone knows of a better laptop for £500.

1. Dell XPS 1530

2. HP Pavilion dv6750ea

Change the graphics card in the 1530 to the 8600m GT, and you're all set. You won't regret it. The 8400 will let you run BF2 on lowest settings, it's slower than a 7300LE.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Lol, I looked up some benchies on 3DMark03 with the 8400m GS. The top scores were around 6000 points, and those were with those top-end mobile CPUs. For reference, my Mobility Radeon 9200 gets around 2500.

Looks pretty good. If you want to, you could choose a T7**0 CPU instead of the T8100 and go for a larger battery. Six cells is enough for most, but it won't last more than, well, maybe 1.5-2 hours.

Yeah they don't have a T7**0 option, .Sup suggested that too. I can always get a 9 cell at a later date, the 9 cell batteries are pretty pricey at the moment too. £85.00

The bigger battery is indispensable. Definitely spring for it.

Edit: It's better to buy the larger battery at time of purchase, since its usually cheaper to buy it then as opposed to later on.

In all honesty, if you want a decent running laptop, it will cost more. Gaming laptops always cost more than gaming desktops.

Does the UK Dell have an online outlet store? You can get laptops in the US for a $300+ discount. I got my Vostro 1500 in October for several hundred dollars off because it's a refurb. They also sell returns and whatnot if refurbs aren't your thing. It might be worth looking into.

I know. I was just responding to a few replies talking about gaming laptops and the like. Seriously though, if you just want it for regular use, you can go on dell.com and build your own with whatever you need for a relatively cheap price.

I don't think so, I looked around and found the US version. But not in the UK.

Unless anyone knows of a UK version...
