I would be hestitant to engage in accusations of genocide (because of the immensity implied by the subject), but it is obvious that despite what most Canadians believe, their history is far from perfect. I have ancestors who were treated dismally by the Canadian government, but I shall believe our line lucky that it was lenient compared to the treatment that so many others have received harshly. Yet, few Canadians realize their history, nor recognize it if thy are aware. It is pushed aside as an obscure part of the Canadian identity, regarded as an anomaly or committed by those who aren't true Canadians. At the same time, scorn for the American past is common, which while perhaps somewhat more harsh than acts of the Canadian past, was often committed in the same spirit as wrongful acts of the Canadian past.
