You guys are all noobs, go with this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814150291

It's a lot better than what you guys suggested and the price/performance is killer.

Negative, 8800GT is price/performace killer.

As for the OP:  9800GX2 > 8800ultra > 9800GTX > 8800GTX > 8800GTS (g92) > 8800GT > 8800GTS 640mb > etc

err, no. he's looking for an 128 stream processor video card, not 112, plus the cooling on that thing is terrible and loud.

plus, the 9800gtx is 10% faster than the 8800ultra.

Stream processors aren't everything. That the card is loud, ok, I have a zalman cooler on my 8800GT, I hate loud components myself . faster than the ultra? proof?

This review would tend to indicate otherwise.  This shows the Ultra beating 9800GTX across the board.

/agree?
Yes.  This card overclocks like a champ and runs anything you throw at it on the highest settings (except Crysis, but that goes without saying).  Still, even Crysis looks great on it.  I think the price/performance ratio is excellent.  I'm jealous, I bought my GTS for $350 when it first came out, now you are paying $100 less
I bought two 7800GT's for 250 or 350 for SLI
the second card was useless because the second PCI express slot was faulty on my board   had to sell it

But yeah    for overclocking what's a good guide? And for people who have the card overclocked... How much did u overclock it?

Will buy it this afternoon     karmaz for the link posters
With stock cooling, I've overclocked the core from 670Mhz to 770Mhz and the memory from 972Mhz to 1050.  And I still haven't hit a wall, it runs perfectly stable and idles at 41 Celsius with the fan @ 80%.  I will eventually try to push it further when I have the time and feel like it.

Just use RivaTuner to set all the clocks and control the fan speed.  Crysis acts as a good stability test.

If your resolution is 1440x1050 or more go with 8800GTX, if its less->8800GTS.

The GTX is getting a bit old to drop that kind of cash on.
as far as simple, what is the MAIN difference between the GTX and the G92?

This crap confuses me, I heard the GTX is more of a beast, more shaders etc...

Also isnt the GTX freaking huge?

What kind of power do I need? (im running a 650 watt PSU right now)
650 is fine,

using 600 + GTX myself.

Look, I could care less about loudness   I have 2hdds and 3 120mm fans   my case is loud as it is

Now what are you guys saying about the Ultra? That its better than the 8800GTX?

I'm willing to throw down some good money for a good card

To see the top of the line, could someone just post up the BEST card (money doesnt matter)

Looks like I'll put off buying that card for a little bit

An ultra, is a GTX, different heat sinc and a better clock speed, you pay through the nose for it because it was a limited run flagship card (used to be).  On very high resolutions, nothing can really compete with the Ultra because of its memory and bandwitch.

The 9800GX2 is the new flagship card from nvidia, but with that reaching its EOL (end of life) in june, to be replaced by june, that may not be such a smart purchase.  Despite websites quoting it is as being a 1024mb card, it isnt, its two 512s on one board (it isnt a case of simply adding 512+512=1024).

From ATI, there releasing a new card by may (4870), which will probably be top dog over anything for a little while atleast.  Point is, less you are buying a card like an 8800GT, right now, would be unwise to really buy anything.  The parts are all due for refresh soon, so, the concencious would be, either wait for the newer and supposedly better part, or wait and make some savings on the current crop.  I couldnt recommend anyone spending a lot of cash on a card right now.

If you absolutely must buy something now (or in the next two or so weeks), get a 512mb GTS, it will run everything fine with the exception of crysis, and isnt going to break the bank.

Yeah, im not trying to get the Top Of The Line but I want something good, I guess theyll just be coming out with the $450 + Cards, so I might as well just buy that http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814130337

Now, Im going to sit on this for a few hours (buy tonite)

can ANYONE come up with a reason for me NOT to buy this card?
I doubt they will, but it wont hurt to wait a few more hours

(on 1440x900 resolution, with 4GB ram and AMD AM2 6000+ 3.01Ghz)

Buy it and be happy.

You don't need a GTX for your resolution.

Dos problemas.

First, you state it is fact the 9800GTX is a price/performance killer, when it obviously isn't.

Second, you berate him for sounding like a redneck and needing to boost his ego on t3h internetz, while your post does exactly the same thing to and for you.
