He made a thread saying freedom of speech should have no restrictions, then another one complaining about someone excercising that freedom and asking how he can restrict them.

It's my freedom of speech to know who exactly is calling me and why. And it is also my freedom to do something about it if i feel the cops wont.

You just answer the phone and put it on your desk and let them waste their parents money on calls. That's why I do to telemarketers, say yeah hold on 2 minutes and then put the phone in a cupboard.

I imagine the fraction of money wasted is nothing to the company, but it makes me feel good...

Maybe I'll start a revolution.

How does it waste them money? And how will that help me? If they keep on calling me all hours of the night mumbling and laughing how will that hurt them?

It's absolutely not. Your freedom of speech is the freedom to express yourself how you see fit. This includes saying/wearing/worshipping/drawing what you want. It does not include knowing who is calling you. In fact, it should be part of that person's freedom of speech to remain anonymous. According to your definition of freedom of speech, that is. Since he's using the phone company's private lines, he's bound to their rules and they can handle this how they please as long as he's not breaking any laws. Irritating you isn't against the law, if it was I suspect there'd be a world full of criminals.

I'm not debating whether or not you should be able to find out who's calling you, or whether or not you should be able to stop them. I'd have it stopped in your position too, but it's silly to think it's part of your First Amendment right. Anyway, the phone company should help you with it. It's in their best interest to keep their customers happy.

Btw, the irony/hypocrisy of all this is so entertaining.

Going off the basic prinicple that calling someone and them answering costs money...

As in on their phone bill...

Or do you not pay to call people there?

It only wastes money for telemarketers since they're usually making long distance calls. It won't affect your stalker except to keep your line tied up so they can't call again.

Not if they live close by. Calls within a 15-20 mile radius (or so) are free.

Oh burn on me...

It costs me to call someone next door.

Forget my idea, or just do it to waste their time.

or
Get a private number block, people who call you have to unblock their number or they will not be able to get threw.

That's your only options.

I think this person's crossed into the "harassment" category of things.
