So here is the situation:
I have 2 36gb raptors in raid 0 as my main c drive, and I have 2 160gb hitachis in raid 0 as a storage drive, and I also had all my games installed onto those drives.
I was using the onboard raid controller, but for obvious reasons I decided to go with a standalone raid controller, so I can change mobos if need be.
So in preparation for moving from the onboard nvraid controller to the standalone controller, I wiped the hitachi raid array and resized the partition of the raptor array to around 40gb (I had a bunch of free space, and imaging a smaller partition will take less time) and left the rest of the space unallocated. I started experiencing problems with the hitachi array, so I got rid of the array and formatted each drive with its own partition.
When I reboot, my computer hangs after the loading screen. If I boot in safe mode, it hangs after loading crcdisk.sys. I have left it sit for hours and it never boots, but if I boot from my windows cd and delete the partitions on those drives, it boots fine. If I unhook those drives, it is fine.
I created a partition and formatted it, then ran the chkdsk utility in windows, with the options selected to locate and atempt recovery of bad sectors, and automatically fix file system errors. It comes back with no errors.
So what is the problem? are the drives defective? did I do something to screw them up? it happens the same with both of them formatted, or just one. I tried it with both. All I want to do is copy my c drive to a standard non-raid disk so that I can image it onto the new array I create with the standalone controller. what do you guys think?
