Situation:

a bad cd contained fake files which copied corrupted xp installation files onto the hard drive, now the hard drive has to go to setup whenever the computer boots up. However, since these xp installation files are bad and corruped, it attempts tp install but cannot so I get a BSOD.

I have tried wiping out that hard drive but it will not let me beacuse there are "temporary XP Installtion files required"

What I need:

A software that can erase hard drives during boot up which I can burn on a disk and use during start up to clear out and delte the entire hard drive so these bad installation files are gone and i can use a "good/legal" cd to reinstall these files.

Any help appreciated, this customer is impatient. Karma will be rewarded since I am quite urgent.

Could you put the disk into another computer (as a slave, don't boot with it) and format it from there?

Why don't you use a good XP installation disc to do it? Boot from the CD, then click install, and delete the partition that is on there, make a new one, and install to that?

What make of HDD do you have?
Mmaxtor and seagate both have apps you can run to check your drive and format it you just need to downlo0ad them as an iso file then burn them to C.D then select to boot from that then reformat using the app.
Not sure but I think the maxtor one will format any type of HDD.

Hope that helps

Use symantec partition magic on a working computer to set up the bootable floppy drives which you then use on this computer. The floppies will let you delete, move, fiddle about with partitions, entire hard drives etc.
