One of the less selfish things to hope for after you die is that you've made the world a better place for the next generation. I'm not the kind of person that thinks much about this concept, but I can at least respect it. Society would probably progress faster if more people focused on the welfare of our posterity.
Perhaps I'll try to rephrase what I said, if you were told you had a day to live, what would you feel made your life worth living? If someone remembers me in a positive way, then I've added to that person's life, so it isn't just a case of me wanting someone to know I was there.
I wasn't really trying to target you with my post, but I see what you're saying. Making someone's life better before you die is an altruistic goal for sure.
But yeah, if today, I discovered I only had a day to live. I'm not sure what the hell I'd do. I'd probably try to pay off all my debts so that my family wouldn't have to carry them, which, I guess is a roundabout way of bettering the lives of others....
Knowing I left little damage would make it worth it for me, I guess...
