It's just a tshirt. And not that bad. I've seen more offensive, like "I suck Jesus Juice" with a picture of orange juice on it.

Actually I think this kind of thing is helpful in getting this kind of stupid issue out in the open so it can be made fun of.

Yeah it should be acceptable and people shouldn't even blink an eye. But you have to ask yourself why he did it. Simply to enrage the rangers fans. There used to people stabbed at Rangers Vs Celtic matches regularly. I remember being over as a kid and being terrified. Heavily armed and Riot police, water cannons, all for a game of football.
This kind of shit helps reignite all that shit. He knew what he was doing and should be punished for it.

Deliberately stirring shitty old age feuds for no reason, even when the two teams are so cosmopolitan these days, that he's probably pissing someone off in his own team too.

I'd be of the opinion that it's just a T-shirt too though I wouldn't have worn it myself (and I'm a Celtic fan). I remember how incensed Celtic fans were when Paul Gascoine emulated a marching Orangeman in one of his old firm goal celebrations...he got death threats over it! Former Rangers keeper Andy Goram also got in hot water once when he wore a black armband following the death of a notorious Loyalist terrorist (though he claimed it was for his Auntie who had died). This however is only a picture of the Pope (who was Polish like the Celtic goalkeeper himself) and would be comparable maybe to a Rangers player wearing a T shirt of William of Orange or something.

This weekends football (that's rugby league to you foreigners) had a player hit across the face, accidentally by another player, causing a severe black eye forcing him from the field. The ground attendants began to play "Big Girls Don't Cry" as he was walked from the field.

That has actually caused some people to lodge complaints, and although it's something far less serious then any racial or religious slur, you'll always have someone take offense because it isn't 100% politically correct.

It's quite surprising how something you or I may see as a light hearted or tongue in cheek joke can really upset another person.

Lol...In Ireland 'football' means Gaelic football and not soccer. A point of fierce debate, as seen here in the build up to a 2006 world cup game when a GAA official and soccer pundit cross swords (about 1min30 in)!...

At the end of the day both the actions are to stir sectarian hatred really when all's said and done, personally I think it should be stamped out of sport..

If it said god bless Hitler, I could see the debate, but most protestant denominations have nothing but respect for the pope, especially John Paul II.

clearly you are not overly familiar with the Free Presbyterian's then? they view him as the Anti-Christ and with nothing but hatred. Not talking moderate C of E/C of I  Protestantism. Anyways both clubs are steeped in sectarian hatred (as are loads of city football clubs in England), it's the same with football at a local level here too, though I have to say the IFA are trying hard to stamp it out ,as is the case in scotland too I believe? & it's not overly prevelant in England, although, the Celtic fan who got his throat slashed in Belfast a couple of weekends ago I believe was the doing of a Chelsea supporter over from London for the "bother".. Scummy fucker...
