I think ill run it regular for a while, to break it in

Over-clocking when you don't need to makes no technological sense.

Some people like an increased performance over 30% They get their moneys worth and then some. You can overclock the card (safely) with its stock fan to 850mhz and 1100mhz for the memory. To get this high you'll have to raise the fan speed to 90% or above which is quite loud in my personal opinion, but to each his own. I have mine set at 800 and 1000 with the fan at 65% and it idles at 41 and goes no higher than 54 with a full load (I mean full load like Crysis maxed out. For games like BF2 is stays around 45).

Define 'safely' - by over-clocking you're putting more strain on the silicon - more strain on the silicon=shorter lifespan.

OC'ing current mainstream or higher parts is generally pointless.

You don't overclock for performance, you overclock for e-penis, I thought that was common knowledge.

If he was getting 60FPS in Crysis at full settings then I'd agree. However he isn't, so OCing it will allow him to get a few extra frames, making it a bit smoother and so more enjoyable.

Who does get 60FPS in Crysis at full settings (even on an overclocked 8800GTS)?

Agreed.  Just asking for your mobo to fry when a few frames per second aren't really that worth a risk.

No point. I haven't overclocked my E6400. Why? It does exactly what I need it to do fine - I don't need it to be faster. It seems to the be same way with the original poster, here. Overclocking voids warranties, can be damaging to your system, definetely gives a shorter life span on that piece of electronic equipment...if you want the extra performance - great! But it seems that the OP is very content with what he has, and between overclocking or not - I'd recommend the latter.

EVGA supports GPU overclocking.
