I just upgraded from my 7800GT 256MB OC

I went from medium/low settings with lagg and no AA

Im now running (only Graphics card changed) Very high, and one Medium for Object Quality (or something like that, I was playing with settings and noticed little/no difference.) with 2x AA

I must say, crysis, with DX10 and these new settings is a whole new game

I think I almost cried :'(

In closing, if your thinking about upgrading, GET THIS CARD.

Don't forget to overclock it with RivaTuner.  I easily reached a core clock of 770 Mhz (from a stock 670 Mhz)... I bet you can push it over 800 Mhz.

Yeah, im also yet to Overclock it

I think ill run it regular for a while, to break it in

(That makes no technological sense, im lazy.)

Over-clocking when you don't need to makes no technological sense.

Some people like an increased performance over 30% They get their moneys worth and then some. You can overclock the card (safely) with its stock fan to 850mhz and 1100mhz for the memory. To get this high you'll have to raise the fan speed to 90% or above which is quite loud in my personal opinion, but to each his own. I have mine set at 800 and 1000 with the fan at 65% and it idles at 41 and goes no higher than 54 with a full load (I mean full load like Crysis maxed out. For games like BF2 is stays around 45).

Supposedly, taking the GTS 512 memory past 1000 shortens its lifespan.

Define 'safely' - by over-clocking you're putting more strain on the silicon - more strain on the silicon=shorter lifespan.

No point. I haven't overclocked my E6400. Why? It does exactly what I need it to do fine - I don't need it to be faster. It seems to the be same way with the original poster, here. Overclocking voids warranties, can be damaging to your system, definetely gives a shorter life span on that piece of electronic equipment...if you want the extra performance - great! But it seems that the OP is very content with what he has, and between overclocking or not - I'd recommend the latter.

OC'ing current mainstream or higher parts is generally pointless.

I just oc mine for crysis then put it back to standard for normal use.
Ive found putting the fan greater than 80% doesn't increase cooling significantly to warrant the noise. Imho 60% is a good balance.

to?

if it shortens it to less than a year, then i'll be sure not to take mine past that.  but if not, i'll get a replacement within a year anyway.

The G92 GTS is a powerful card for it's price, but goddamn, it's ugly as hell.

Wow you guys are silly.

You don't overclock for performance, you overclock for e-penis, I thought that was common knowledge.

If he was getting 60FPS in Crysis at full settings then I'd agree. However he isn't, so OCing it will allow him to get a few extra frames, making it a bit smoother and so more enjoyable.

Who does get 60FPS in Crysis at full settings (even on an overclocked 8800GTS)?

Agreed.  Just asking for your mobo to fry when a few frames per second aren't really that worth a risk.

That's what I always think when I hear about all of this over clocking by default.

EVGA supports GPU overclocking.
