DailyTech reported earlier today that Windows XP's third service pack was ready for full deployment via Windows Update, as promised by Microsoft. However, in an eleventh hour move sure to draw criticism, the service pack was yanked by Microsoft and will not be released on April 29th as previously promised.

The pack was pulled because it breaks or otherwise compromises the Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS). The RMS application is relatively uncommon and is chiefly used by small/midsize businesses, making Microsoft's decision to pull the pack seem a bit unusual.

what was your disaster?
i got BOSD'd every time i tried to start up...had to restore to before i installed it.

No this is related to a missing license for small companies. Nothing serious it just needs to have this license. (or EU will sue Microsoft again :p)

I don't think that was related to your blue screen. Most of the patch dealt with security. But then again, this is Microsoft after all....They would probably screw up solitaire if we let them.

mine and my boss' computer started the endless reboot cycle after installing the service pack. we both had to do a repair install to get them working again. it scared me enough that i deployed a group policy to the domain to block the service pack.

Lol I heard just read this today in first block while trying to find solutions to my "Cannot open volume for direct access" message in boot chkdsk and i was like 'no wai!' but then I read it was pulled and was like...meh oh well..I'll pass on this one until I actually have reason to get it. Lol and I read ms will stop producing xp copies or something on my birthday
