Ha, Bose is overpriced and mediocre. I'm glad the guy mentioned that the price didn't warrant the performance associated with it. For anyone serious about audio, you know better than to waste your money on Bose. This set is lacking deep end bass, which is fine, considering they're small speakers with no subwoofer, but $400 for two computer speakers that sound pretty good is not worth it. And the Bose surround sound systems manage to miss out on mid range imaging.

Out of all those, I'd probably personally go with the Boston Acoustics speakers.

Bose are good for movies not for music. BW, Tannoy is the way to go. There are other good brands too.

My main point is that, for the price, Bose is not worth it. For the crazy $4k you can spend on their 'best' model, you can make a custom system yourself that will destroy the sound quality of Bose speakers. Same idea when we tell people to build their own computer vs. buying Alienware.

I totally agree on that. I'd rather have BW stereo speakers for the same amount of money than overpriced Bose speaker set.

Got these for my birthday and they absolutely rock - the sounds quality is mind blowing for the price and the sub is ridiculously small for the bass it produces.. Only flay in my minds is that the speaker in the sub is unprotected and fitted to the base of it so you've got to be really careful with it..

I still like my own system better.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I've got a set of Altec Lansings w/ subwoofer.

For a 100 bucks, it's damn good quality.
