A Vietnamese girl is finally free of a disfiguring 16-pound (7-kilogram) facial tumor, after a surgery that lasted at least 12 hours in Miami.

The Schwannoma tumor had consumed the lower half of 15-year-old Lai Thi Dao's face. It had been growing since she was 3 and eventually accounted for roughly one-third of her body weight.

Why would you let it grow to such a size in the first place? Sure, maybe they didn't have access to medical care, but, Jesus...

It looks like she's vomiting a good strip of it.

Theres been a documentary series of this on TV lately (UK), some of them had warts like that, some so bad that they looked like a cross between a tree and a human. Horrible sights. It almost looked like Tiberium mutants from C&C.

Makes you realise how lucky we are with the health-care system we have, even if it is far from perfect for our expected standards...

Channel 4 seems to have an obsession with all the worlds most disgusting, scary diseases. I felt a lot better about life until I saw some of them.

Well... THAT girl is going through even more hell right now.

After that... the swelling DOES cut off your air supply. A steel or plastic trache tube is pleasantly gridning away at the lung tissue, and with the wrong move, the airway can partially collapse. That, and with the excess fluids... it requires surgically implanted drains, which introduce to the victim a sheer amount of pain, that, when experienced... feels like a religeous experience. IF you don't pass out from the pain, it is literally blinding.

God damn... poor kid. I hope hope the bone wasn't affected... But i highly doubt it wasn't. It would take a shit ton of bone grafts to fix that... meaning her whole body was tore up to fix that.
