Don't they give you an admission ticket or something with a list of what to bring with you?  I think I had to bring my school ID, pencils (no essays on the SAT when I took them), etc...

What to Bring to the Test Center

• Your Admission Ticket
• Acceptable photo identification
• Two No. 2 pencils and a soft eraser; no pens or mechanical pencils are permitted
• An acceptable calculator (for the SAT Reasoning Test or Subject Tests in Mathematics)
• For a Language with Listening Subject Test, an acceptable CD player with earphones

It's Also a Good Idea to Bring:

• A watch (without an audible alarm)
• A bag or backpack (to be kept under your seat)
• A snack and drinks
• Extra batteries and backup equipment

Important RemindersCell phone use is prohibited; students are strongly encouraged not to bring cell phones to the test center. If your phone makes noise, or you are seen using it at any time (including breaks), you may be dismissed immediately, your scores may be canceled, and the device may be confiscated. This policy also applies to any other prohibited digital and/or electronic device such as a Blackberry, pager, PDA, camera or other photographic equipment, or a separate timer of any kind. We strongly advise you not to bring them. Follow the guidelines for marking answers:

• Use a No. 2 pencil and a soft eraser. Do not use a pen or mechanical pencil. An essay written in pen will not scan and receives a score of zero.
• Make sure you fill in the entire circle darkly and completely.
• If you change your response, erase as completely as possible.
• Use a watch to time yourself—no separate timers or audible alarms are allowed, as they distract other test-takers.
• You must store your snacks out of sight in your backpack or a paper bag. Snacks may be consumed only during breaks.
• You are responsible for bringing equipment in good working order. Test center staff does not have extra batteries, calculators, CD players, or earphones. You are not able to share equipment with another test-taker.

You may not bring the following items into the test room:

• Cell phone, pager, personal digital assistant, or any other digital and/or electronic equipment
• Scratch paper
• Notes, books, dictionary
• Compass, protractor, ruler, or any other aid
• Highlighter or colored pencils
• Portable listening or recording device (unless you're taking a Language Test with Listening)
• Camera or other photographic equipment
• Separate timer of any kind or watch with audible alarm

I think that answers it nicely. Sadly, my handwriting, which is mostly junk with a mechanical pencil, is pure tripe without.

I feel sorry for the grader who is going to have to read it.

Uh-oh.  Write as neatly as you can.  As a person who has done grading for classes before, people who write neater get more partial credit, etc...

That brings up another question:  Why do a lot of people have such terrible penmanship?
