I have searched but no answer to this question.

What exactly is the process? What are our computers doing when it's verifying?... verifying what? and why?

p.s. Sorry if this was talked about but as I said, I found nothing in search.

I believe it is checking that all the necessary data for the game is loaded into memory. The more memory you have the faster it will verify as there will be more memory space to work with.

I got 2GB of memory and it doesn't take long at all.
