Borrowed my version from a friend. He bought Crysis, I bought CO4. And I don't regret my choice. He then ended up buying cod4 for the ps3.

I think that the real reason Crytek are doing this, is because it lowers the benchmarks set by Crysis 1. If you make it console capable, the graphics will have to be less intensive. Which is a good thing, if it means they focus on gameplay and multiplayer rather than shiny graphics that your pc can't support anyway.

I think it's harsh to say that the game was "complete shit". Even after playing the game, there are many who are willing to spend hundred of dollars upgrading their PCs to play it with higher settings and improved frame rates. Like I've previously stated, I've gone through the games several times, and each time I play I'm still mesmerized by the beauty of the game. There could have been more gameplay diversity, but even as it is it's lots of fun if you can run it at high settings.

A year from now when I build a new system I'll be installing it again to play through it with the better hardware.

So, when you make someone a knife, do you not let them hold it? Study it for defects? Or, do you just show them a picture and say they have to buy it to see the real deal?
most of my customers do not get to hold their knife before they purchase it. i would have absolutely no problem with them doing so, its just the fact that i would lose all my money shipping knives to people to see if they like them.

CrazeD wrote:

Yeah same thing here. We get half-assed demos that don't even show us all of the features in the game and they expect us to buy it based on that shitty demo.
ive played demos for games that i didnt wind up enjoying. thats when i dont buy the game....not steal it.

What most of these companies don't realize is that people probably wouldn't have bought the game anyway. They think they're losing money because people pirate, but in reality they don't lose a frigin dime, they just don't gain the money. That's different from losing.
ok, im gonna break this down as simple as i can:
projected sales are effected when people that WOULD buy the game decide to pirate it. that is a loss, NO MATTER HOW YOU WORD IT.
thats how it works in business.

CrazeD wrote:

It's not technically stealing. If you go to walmart and steal the game, they just lost money. They payed to stock the game and now you stole it, so they didn't get money for that game. If you steal a PC game from a torrent, its equivalent to just not buying it (in terms of sales).
WHICH STILL EFFECTS THEIR SALES AS A LOSS!

CrazeD wrote:

I pirated Crysis, mainly to see how my system handled it and do see the hype. The game sucked, I deleted it. I'm very glad I didn't waste 50$ on it.
well good for you.
you actually had a part in this company NOT supporting PC games.

CrazeD wrote:

I pirated COD4 to check it out. Fortunately I didn't have to buy that because I can use my dad's CDKEY while he's playing (<3 that). Though otherwise I would have bought it, it's a great game.
im not even sure what to say to that.....

you are a thief. simple as.....word it however you would like so you feel better, but at the end of the day, thats what it breaks down too.

@Vilham, i respect you opinion on this subject, as you are balls deep in the video game industry, as it were.
though i really cant understand how this wouldnt be a loss. i mean, i understand what you are saying, that if one person buys it, then makes it available for other people to pirate, they arent actually losing any physical copies. i understand that....but i still dont understand how it cant be chalked up as a loss.
if projected sales say X number will be sold, ANYTHING that effects that can be considered a loss....people are playing the game without paying. that HAS to be considered a loss.

Yeah i see where your coming from there parker. I would count it as a loss, but definitely not a 1:1 ratio as they claim, maybe pirating loses 1 in 10 pirated games from sales. This would still leave them with poor sales.

Clearly they had far too high expectations of how many copies they could sell if they only marketed to probably 10% of the PC market.

I still think they are making excuses to avoid admitting they forcasted badly and had a bad business strategy for the game.

Well PC piracy hasn't gotten noticeably bigger in recent years where as piracy of console games is on the rise. It is not much harder to pirate a console game than to pirate a PC game. The consoles however don't have as much piracy now as the PCs do because piracy existed on the PC from the start while piracy has only been doable on the consoles since the previous generation when games started coming on media that was able to be written on by a standard PC.
I was just about to post:

ROFL. "We're not going to do any more PC exclusives 'cos of piracy.."

Like you don't get pirated console games?

Cheap fucks? Crysis at my local store was $100, for a game I'm going to play for 20 hours on low settings - that isn't good value, when I got BF2 free with a pizza and have got well over 2000 hours out of it. If you make a game that fails in multi player don't expect someone to pay over the odds for a game that only has single player value.

For instance, BF2 is set around multi player, that's the top and the bottom of it. I would have got bored of BF2 single player really quickly and I probably wouldn't've played it again. However because it was designed to be played online, people are willing to actually BUY the game for a valid CD-key.

Enjoyment Vs. Money spent - BF2 as a 3 year old game? Beats the shit of out crysis, game developers should realize that and lean towards more multi player games for PC.

Imo Crysis is worth buying it. Its a very good single player game, has the best graphics ever, even has its own benchmarking system so you don't need to buy a good benchmarking software. Besides its got a very good bundle-i got the special edition version with alu. case, 3 extra DVDs and a free APC for online gaming. What else would i want for 40€?

Crysis sold >1million copies. I don't know how they can not consider it a success and then blame that lack of success on people who wouldn't have paid for it anyway.

Exactly, I only buy games which have multiplayer worthy of purchasing a CD key.

If it's a good, or bad singleplayer game I'll download (steal) it and still sleep at night.

Meh, I bought Crysis because I thought it would be worth my money, and I found it was. I remember one game I didn't buy though was CnC Generals. After pirating Gens I bought all other CnC games because I liked them, had I not pirated Gens I would not have bought all the other CnC games. So EA made money off of me pirating their game that I wouldn't have bought anyway.
