My DVD-RW drive keeps getting cyclic redundancy errors reading several discs that it burned a few years ago. I have a DVD-ROM drive on another pc that reads the discs fine. The RW drive can read retail and some burned discs albeit a bit slowly. It's on IDE so maybe it's something to do with slave/master jumpers? The jumper is currently set to slave but there are no other IDE devices on this computer so I assumed it wouldn't cause problems...

So is it something I can fix or should I buy a new RW/ROM drive to read my discs?

Sounds like the disks are not in great condition and nor is the drive. The best bet is to reimage the disks and reburn them onto fresh media. Also be prepared to replace your DVD drive fairly soon. It probably won't fail, but if it becomes unreliable at reading stuff then chances are it'll be unreliable at writing stuff - they're only cheap anyway.
