So i "bought" the game off of a "website" and installed it, and it didnt work

I deleted it and bought the game at Wal-Mart and installed but it says it cant, it fails halfway through

so how do I rid myself of the other version entirely to do this?

Ive deleted the Registry file and the C:\Program Files file's

Sure you deleted all the registries? It is possible that these two problems have no correlation.

Maybe you should have tried buying before "buying"

I recall most GTA games put stuff in your "My Documents" folder that can get in the way of the installation.

Oh, and don't dance around the fact you pirated it. You don't care, I don't, most people here don't so you end up looking like you're saying "I 'went to the bathroom' and 'took a shit.'" We know what you're talking about, why are you "trying" to "be funny."

thats harsh, and I don't think hes trying to be funny or anything just giving some background info so we can try and help him better.

All that was needed was "I'm trying to reinstall X game and it doesn't work, I've deleted Y files and Z keys but does anyone know if there are any I'm missing?"

Perhaps I'm bitter. Perhaps there was no attempt to be funny, because there's not even misguided humor in there. It may be the fact that anytime someone is looking for a program be it graphics, anti virus (there's a thread on this right. now.), games, etc programs, someone always says "You could 'download it' from a 'website' that offers 'downloads'" like it makes you one of the cool kids to download a torrent client and party all night long.

Remember when Kazaa came out and every single high school was filled with leet hackers and "U GOT DAT 4 FRE?!" kinda crap? Well, it's that, but 10 years later and twice as annoying.

Good rant. How complicated is it to say "I got this (whatever) and (whatever) problem happened", not emphasizing the method of acquisition, but the problem that necessitated the thread.

Except that's exactly what he did - the only place he went wrong is using a commonly used, and widely understood euphamism.

The fact that he tried to install a pirated copy first is at the crux of the problem here.

(and, sorry, OP, no, I don't know what you need to get rid of to get it to install)

My rant was a general one, including for problems not related to the piracy.

But honestly, even if piracy was a cause for the problem, just say you torrented it, no you "bought" it. It isn't even a euphemism, but a pathetic lie.

No, it is a euphemism.

"I bought GTA from a shop, but it didn't install" - now, that would be a lie.

By putting "bought" in speechmarks you make it obvious that you're not using the word 'bought' in its literal sense.

i lol'd and decided to use the same style in my post

I "installed" it again through the disk (not a euphemism or w.e, the game wont launch, i can still install though) and then Un-installed it

Then I deleted the My Documents and Registry and Program Files folders and installed again and now it works

Thanks though
