excerpt: PITTSBURGH —  The Flight 93 memorial will be built in phases and only 40 percent will be completed in time for a ribbon-cutting on the 10th anniversary of the attacks.

But family members of the 40 passengers and crew who died on the hijacked United Airlines flight said they're not disappointed the whole project won't be ready by Sept. 11, 2011.

"We are glad we will have a substantial memorial to dedicate," Patrick White, vice president of Families of Flight 93, said Saturday after a meeting of the Flight 93 federal task force and advisory commission in Somerset.

The initial phase will allow visitors to get close to the clash site, according to the National Park Service. It will include a plaza that extends along the edge of the crash site, with a ceremonial wall and drop-off to separate visitors from the crash site.

"Phasing is really a way to manage the funding," said Joanne Hanley, Flight 93 National Memorial superintendent. "We are building an entire national park and the funding ... is coming in at different times."

My Take:  These people rose up against the enemies of America, were citizens, and were the only people who defended the US against the terrorist attack of 9-11 and struck the first blow against the terrorist while most likely saving the White House from having a JET take it out.  How do the people saved by their noble actions repay them?????

FUCK YOU ALL TO HELL FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

In the government's defence, they did give millions to the families of all the victimes of the 9/11 attacks (compare that to the death benefits of a soldier serving in Iraq and that's is an enormous amount money wasted on frivolous pet projects and that's a pitiful amount)

Why do we need memorials for everything? Couldn't that money be used for more practical reasons. Those guys are dead, they can't care.

-I see your point but I think we are both generalizing about the government...it is not an amorphous entitiy, some are good, and some take money from 9/11 memorials to build bridges to nowhere
death benefits are paid for by the servicemember.  life insurance is deducted monthly from ones pay check.  death benefits outside of SGLI are a few thousand dollars to pay for the funeral  and your last paychecks for a month and a half or any bonus money that has not been collected yet.

Trillions in debt. I don't think we care about how much we spend any more...

The number always concerns us, on a gut level. It is which generation is going to pay for it all that doesn't.

The U.S. government acts like a first time home owner counting on being able to refinance the debt at sometime because of the equity in the property.

We saw how that worked out for the average person.
