So I overclocked my GPU and was wondering about 2 things.

First the specs:
EVGA 8800GS (yes the GS, not GT or GTS)
EVGA product specs
My overclock specs

Question 1:
When do I know it's stable?
AtiTool can't find anything yet... Do I need to check with other applications aswell?

Question 2:
How can I get better results?
Is it really only by volt modding?

Thank you for your help

Furmark

FurMark is a small OpenGL benchmark focused on fur rendering. The rendering algorithm is highly multipass (100 passes) and each pass (or layer) uses a GLSL (OpenGL Shading Language) vertex / pixel shader to make the hairs finer and finer. To increase the fur realism, two dynamic lights are used for self shadowing. The benchmark offers several options allowing the user to tweak the rendering: fullscreen / windowed mode, MSAA selection, window size, duration. The benchmark also includes a GPU Burner mode (stability test).

you just need to get your card to last for 30minutes...

1: run atitool artifact scan for few hours and try gaming different games.

2: setting higher fan speed with rivatuner will result in better OC results. Forget about volt modding with air cooling.

You don't need to volt mod to get better results, but it can of course help you get higher clocks.  However, you should not be touching the voltages on your components unless you have absolute confidence in your knowledge and abilities because upping the voltage is the easiest way to fry something.

yeah but will a higher fan speed, and thus a lower temp really help in combatting the artifacts?

EDIT for the other people: And i use the EVGA program. check the pictures.

It does.

In most cases, yes. If it's 70C load on 60% and 60C on 100%, I doubt it's gonna do anything but add noise to your PC.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Well adding 10 percent does seem to make it possible to run at 1000 MHz memory.
Have to test that out though.

EDIT: nvm, 975 seems to be more stable...

One quick question. Does the card have the EVGA sticker, or does it have the Green Eye as newegg shows?

Thanks.

I see you use Rivalite (Precision )

Mine has the EVGA logo, as seen in the PDF file. It actually looks pretty cool, too bad that I usually can't see it.

And yes, I thought so that Precision looks like a simple version of rivatuner.
Don't mind though. I, being new to this, don't need more options than this just yet.

From what I have tried (cannot reach max performace because of limited cooling), I reached almost 1000 more points with just overclocking my 8600GT...

G92 overclocks don't show improvement in 3dMark06.

pretty much the same thing when you have 3 RV670 GPUs. Only very minor increase in points. 3Dmark06 is SOOOO CPU bound with multi-GPU rigs.

I'll vouch for that
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
