Some stuff made in China is perfectly ok (although more premium electronics tend to be manufactured in Taiwan, not China).

Any stuff designed in China is what you want to watch out for. Since that's all shit.

As far as them failing because of the general quality of work/goods coming from there.  That is a stretch.  They are very resilient and crative people and are very determined to be a economic pwerhouse greater than the US.  I give them 10 years.

I think you nailed it. They make cheap shit for us because we're happy with cheap shit. The things they'll manufacture for themselves are much nicer. Unlike us, they import quality and export crap. Why do we do it backwards?
You guys export crap too

Well, sort of.

Cars, mainly. But at least it's not on a large scale. Thank fuck we don't get most of your GM cars here

Not before they become the next super power.

Remember Japan in the 60-70s. They were like China of today, couldn't produce anything of quality at all, now look at them. The same will happen to China just on a MUCH bigger scale.
Japan took a different path than China in terms of development. It had access to better materials and had a much higher proportion of the population that is well educated (more urban, wealthier, etc.)

And I take umbrage with the statement that Japan couldn't produce anything of quality in the 60-70s. They had substandard consumer electronics, but their automotive/shipbuilding/motor/aircraft industries were always top-notch, even back into the 30s.

I'm working at Intersport which sells sports equipment and from some footballs-that are made in China-some kind of glue comes off. Always when i...how do you say it..put some more air in the ball, my hands get sticky.

China currently lacks the quality control and environmental standards the more developed nations have in place.  Of course, urbanization is fairly new so give them a while.

However, size of the population versus resources, cultural progression, and strain on social systems is going to cause some unrest and cause some delays.

Isn't Vauxhall in the UK Opel?  Although Opel belongs to GM, the cars aren't American, but German.

China makes cheap products because the American companies that hire them WANT a cheap product to increase profit margins.

The US has shifted from a manufacturing company to a service nation, which is why the US is so dependent on China. The US makes products that as just as good (or bad) as China's. Where the product is made doesn't necessarily determine its quality. It is ultimately up to the companies to guarantee quality standards. The US had problems with quality when it was industrializing, too. It's just that now because of global communications and the media that we condemn China so much, but it's changing.

China is not failing, and will most likely continue its growth. It is probable that China will surpass the United States and become the new Super Power.  They have a strong economy, growing services, and a large population that supplied labor for a continuation of the manufacturing industry. They already have slave wages, so a shift to a service economy wouldn't be as dramatic as the shift in the US.

And that article isn't relevant. It could easily happen to any city in the world.

Although I hope the US doesn't become overshadowed by another country. We have to accept the fact that Western countries won't rule the world forever. There's always and end to everything.

You don't save money buying twenty Chinese drill bits to do the job that one American drill bit will.

The article seemed relevant because China will export her epidemics too.

The article says: "HFMD, characterized by fever, sores in the mouth and rashes on hands and feet, is not a new infection and is common among infants and children, experts say. It can be triggered by various viruses and usually does not lead to death."

Why did you buy the Chinese drill bit in the first place if you think American one's will save you money?

The sad truth is that Americans are accustomed to cheap Chinese goods. If China improved wages, American would suffer higher prices and possibly recession.

I agree that, in general, American products are overall better than Chinese, but there's no reason to chastise them. China is dominating the market whether you like it or not.

Thats fine and good if you don't have a budget. I guess the alternative is to run up a line of credit you never intend on paying back.. then claim to be the victim.

To buy American made drill bits I have to go to a machine shop supply house.

120* spotting drills, 1/4" are $23.00.

I get roughly 2-3k holes in bronze or aluminum castings.

Try buying a spotting drill at Home Depot. Go a head.

So called " high speed carbide " drill bits sold by home depot get about 10-15 holes if you buy the premium grade.

The point of the thread is that they will fail because they do not produce quality, not about drill bit rage.

Must I paint a picture with finger paints soz yull get it?

If we didn't insist on making it hard for industry to operate in the states half of these problems would not exist.. But lets just ignore that fact while chanting "damn you big business" on our way to the ballot box.

American greed is building China.

Everytime people go to Wallmart they should stop and consider buying from a Mom and Pop shop if they can.
I seek those places out.
My newest find is www.mexicanhatcactus.com

The geezer that runs the place has been there for 40 years. Mean as hell and his dog greets you at the door.

Knows more about the desert and cactus than you'd find on the internet.
They do not ship.
