Interesting. Several of the above posters mentioned those same "issues". But yea.Scorpion0x17 wrote:
Everyone before the tech team got here: Why are you all saying don't do this, and do do that, when you haven't even asked him want he wants it for, how much he has to spend, and so on?
Please, make room for the professionals...
Richard: 1st up - ignore most of the above posts.
OK, I'll try to sumarise the important parts, and not give you fanboy do-this/don't-do-this-ism's...
1. Really, don't buy off ebay - you can get good quality components on ebay, but equally, you can get ripped off - buy from a reputable source.
2. What's your budget?
3. Do you plan to Overclock?
4. Do you forsee buying a second video card and running SLi?
5. What's your intended use for the machine?
6. The QX9650 is a very nice processor, I'd buy one, but you can get a better performance-cost ratio with other processors.
7. The mobo you've chosen only supports DDR2 - DDR3 would be a better match for that CPU - but it will bump the price up.
8. If you will be SLi'ing at some point, you'll need an SLi mobo - the one you've selected is Crossfire - for SLi and DDR3, look for one with the 790i chipset - again, this will bump the price up.
9. What's your budget?
It was the lack of reasons or anyone asking questions that I was commenting on, rather than the points being made.killer21 wrote:

We need to know his budget and intended uses before we can start offering more specific advice.
I think GX2 and Q9450 beats Ultra and QX9650 hands down, don't you think?killer21 wrote:
But you would have to OC that pro to get a similar performance of the QX9650, wouldn't you?

Comparing prices? Hell yea! lol. But yea, I see your point. Good show.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

Again, this is why asking questions before commenting is such a good idea (and I'm not getting at you here, btw) - it's horses for courses.killer21 wrote:

If he will be raping the CPU with say video encoding, music, etc, will only be doing a little gaming and has the money, then the QX9650 is the way to go.
But if he wants a kick-ass gaming rig on a reasonable budget, then there are better options.

In all honesty, I think he is going more for gaming than multimedia - at least from the specs he provided. But, I see your point as well. I probably could have asked what the reasons behind his decision to go with what he wanted instead of suggesting a more suitable motherboard to go a long with that processor.
Again, I'm not getting at you - you did at least ask a question, instead of just making an unsupported statement based on personal preference.killer21 wrote:

having ultra in the current list would be insane if he wasn't gonna game.

Again, that's why one asks questions.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

Now that would, indeed be a waste of money.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

I'm gonna stay out of this one...

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Why in earth you didn't get 9800GX2 then? or do you have the ultra already?
edit: you can use the 7900 for another monitor but it doesn't work in sli.

This thread makes absolutely no sense in any way.

This thread is quickly going down the toilet.
