Hi Folks,
First post. Short term lurker.
Probably already been asked, but I didnt see it anywhere nearby...
Why do some servers prefer to use teamspeak instead of the in-game voip?
Is there a hit on game performance when using voip?
Is teamspeak that much better than the voip in BF2?
Just wondering...

you can talk to a maximum of 32 players rather than a limit of a squad of 6 - you can communicate to multiple squads at once
also its more leet
why i never use it - pointless, VoIP is sufficient for most circumstances

Teamspeak is also much clearer.

2 reasons:
1. You want to play with your friends, but the VoIP does only work during the game. How should your friends know which server you'll join if you can not talk to them?
2. BF2 VoIP doesn't work for me. Don't know why.

1. can communicate to all of your squadmates on all sides, no just your squad pf a bunch of strangers or only a quarter of your clanmates.

2. more clear.

3. takes less resources minimized than use voip in-game.

4. not all servers activate the feature.

It's clearer than VoIP and it breaks up far less.  Also, if it's one where friends go often, you can talk to them while they're not in BF2.

also it  allows you to talk to members in your squad without having to hit the "B" key which is really handy if need to warn someone of approaching tank/heli/squad etc, you can also use Skype as well

not all of my friends do play bf2, so i can still talk to the other people too.

I don“t like to talk to strangers and play the game on my own or with some friends over TS, so I turned VoIP off.
Also it uses too much resources.

Ventrillo is what we use.  It has a voice activated key up so you are hands free and dont have to hit the voice button to talk.

well speakin  of VOIP, teamspeak voice quality is not that good but people prefer to use it over VOIP, I suggest Vent its better than TS has a very good voice quality......... no echo or anythign in the background....

I always had issues with Ventrilo on CS so i now use teamspeak only.  It took a while for me to work out port forwarding but now i can host my own ts server and still keep my ping below 100.  www.portforward.com has good info concerning bf2 and teamspeak.  Although i seem to have a problem when i load in the first time, i get massive ping spikes (up to 1000) and cant play, then i disconnect, reload and am steady on 60, very annoying.  Anyone got any ideas?

It's better..

VoIP turns down the game sound when someone talks, so you can't hear anything while they're blabbering (you can probally turn that off, but whatever), you can hold/talk to more people in TS, you can talk to any/all squads, and to the other team, you can talk to them whenever they're connected... vs VoIP when you can only talk in the squad. TS is much clearer, you can have voice activation, AND... you can complain about your stupid squad members without them knowing.

THe BF2 ingame Voip just won't work,I tried everything....

And I use Teamspeak since I play multiplayer games online.
Before that I only shortly tested Battlecom which is crap, disconnects all the time..

tha...tha.....tha.....tha....thats what I was thinking.

I use ts and voip at the same time and have no lag issues at all.   You just need a good sound card and plenty of memory.

I've used vent in the past and actually prefer it because of the quality but current clan uses ts so......ts it is.
