My criteria:
I don't really have a budget but I'd like to keep it near 3,000 USD
Strictly gaming, networking, ISS(my bachelor's degree)
Again, OCing is not necessary
Vista Premium at the minimum...no more XP
I think that is it.
Thanks.
lol no. I've built several hundred PC's in my lifetime. Let me make my thread a little clearer. I'm not asking for help per se -- more like any advice on any newer technology I haven't read or heard about. I am proficient in building my own pc. I just want to know if there is something out there that I might not have heard about, giving the fact that a lot of the people on the tech squad post stories, news and etc., on various subjects such as processors, mobos, etc.jamiet757 wrote:
Are you going to build it yourself? Is this the first time you have built a computer?
Cool stuff. I'm going to go with a headset. I can't do the speakers anymore. I need to hear every foot step, every noise, etc., that might give me an advantage over the next guy. I'll probably get a mobo/processor combo such as this one or maybe even the 9650 processor. I know that I am going for the dual 8800GTS 512MB per vid cards too.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

Well if I were you with that kind of money, I would look into getting really good peripherals (speaker system, monitor, headset, keyboard/mic, joystick), a nice case, and silencing it. Especially if you're looking to use it for work as well, having an excellent PC just makes it that much nicer. So you could get enthusiast parts (lol $1000 processor) or get some of this stuff:
resevoir
(not the one you want if you want to be carrying this around)
processor water block
vga waterblock
northbridge waterblock
pump
sound dampening mats
hard drive silencers
That's the route we went with a media pc downstairs, temps are good, sound is low.

How do you propose to run dual 8800GTS cards on a mobo with no SLI? That mobo is shockingly bad. If you want a to run dual nVidia cards you're going to be wanting a 790i board, which will cost far more. The Q9450 is a much better buy than the Q9650.killer21 wrote:

Aye. I'm thinking of going ahead and getting the Asus P5E WS pro to compliment the 9650...might as well I guess.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

Ctrl+V the wrong link. lol.Bertster7 wrote:

Which also doesn't support SLI....killer21 wrote:

Yea. I found the one that I needed. 780i XFX board.Bertster7 wrote:

If you really want dual 8800GTS cards (which isn't a bad idea), you won't be able to do it with that.

I'm not that excited about DDR3 either but he got the money and I guess he wants his PC to be as future proof as it can. (At least I would when buying a 3K beast! lol ) Plextor writers are really awsome as wellBertster7 wrote:

I can't say I agree with having DDR3 in the selection though. It's currently overpriced and underperforming. 1000MHz DDR2 would be a much more cost effective solution. With all that stuff I might consider going for an Enermax Galaxy 850W too, not that it'll be needed, but it'll give you all the power you'd ever need and the Enermax Galaxys are really, really nice (the Corsairs are nice too (I've got one in my machine), just not as nice). I wouldn't go for Samsung DVDRWs either, Pioneer FTW!

But DDR3 is about 3 times the price. Here at least.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

edit: or if you choose to go 780i and DDR2, get a 9800GX2 and that enermax PSU. That way you can upgrade to quad SLi should you need more gaming power.
Good deal. I'll look up that stuff when I get home from work. That is exactly what I was asking about. I need to get back to reading up on stuff. Too much studying.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

edit: price around 3k I think.
Exactly. Like I said, my current pc has lasted 5 years and it could last longer by I know I will need DX10 and my computer can't handle Vista effectively so I might as well get a new pc that will last at least 5 years.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

Make it a triple GTS and it sounds good.Bertster7 wrote:

The 9800GX2 has done little to impress me. I'd be more inclined to go for a triple 8800GTX solution....
I've been a little disenchanted with Plextor drives (which I use a lot and have in general been very pleased with), since 2 of them broke on me in the past month. Pioneer drives often outperform their Plextor counterparts and are exceedingly reliable as well as not having the premium attached. I use loads and loads of these (they are one of the drives used in Macs) and have never seen one break. It's awkward, because ordering the parts from Apple SPS in Holland, there is no difference (they have the same part number) between Pioneer and Sony drives, yet the Sony ones break all the time and often don't work with various media types, but the Pioneer ones are just perfect.
except you can't triple SLi the GTS...ghettoperson wrote:

But is the GTS supported for triple SLI? Last I heard (which was quite a while ago) only the GTX and Ultra were supported. The benchmarks for 9800GTX in 3x SLI are very disappointing too, underperforming normal SLI setups in many instances.ghettoperson wrote:

That's what I thought.ghettoperson wrote:
Apparently it's only the 88GTX 88Ultra and 98GTX.
